Allie X – Girl With No Face

Goth-pop enchantress Allie X, also known as Alexandra Hughes, unveils her highly anticipated album, Girl With No Face, marking her first release since 2020’s acclaimed Cape God.

“I am elated to announce my latest record, ‘Girl With No Face.’ This project holds a special place in my heart as it is the first album I’ve self-produced. At times, the journey felt arduous, almost as if survival itself was in question. Yet, here I am, not only alive but also thrilled to share this announcement,” Allie joyfully reveals.

Reflecting on the profound effort invested in the album, she adds, “It’s a challenge to encapsulate the essence of a body of work crafted over thousands of hours. In these tracks, you’ll find a narrative that explores both death and rebirth. This endeavor was about creating something entirely from within me, if only to prove to myself that I could. The songs are best described as angry, stubborn, honest, dry, melodramatic, fast, and indulgent—much like the facets that some people attribute to me. I hope everyone enjoys it, but if not, perhaps turning up the volume might do the trick.”

Boasting over one million monthly listeners on Spotify and hundreds of millions of streams, Allie X stands as a trailblazer in music, consistently setting new trends as an artist, producer, and songwriter.

Among the album’s standout tracks, “Weird World” captivates with its synth-pop allure and dance-infused rhythm, elevated by Allie X’s haunting vocals that transport listeners to a beautifully peculiar realm. The title track, “Girl With No Face,” enveloped in ominous tones reminiscent of Depeche Mode, conveys a sense of foreboding with Allie X’s delicately exaggerated vocals.

A personal favourite, “Off With Her Tits,” explores a rejection of human flesh, suggesting empowerment through eradication. In “Hardware Software,” mechanical percussion merges with spooky synth colours, creating a cabaret-like ambience underscored by Allie X’s breathy voice.

The pulsating cadence of “Black Eye” and its throbbing colours evoke a Phantom of the Opera sensation, with Allie X singing passionately: “Oh, hit me with that super pain / Cause a hit feels like I’m dancing in the rain / Gimme that beat / There’s no need to cry / It’s just a black eye.”

“Truly Dreams,” bright and saturated with delicious recklessness, showcases the breadth of Allie X’s vocal prowess, navigating a sonic ladder with a variety of sliding tones. Girl With No Face presents an enchanting world where Allie X’s vocals stand as the cornerstone.
