NUDITY - Announce new album 'ASTRONOMICON' out April 7th - Listen to track

Members of Nudity have been fueling the Olympia underground music scene for over two decades. Their DIY hardcore roots shine through in the energy of their music and the grass roots intent with which they operate. These five lords and ladies dive deep into their vintage hard rock-inspired, Krautrock-infused compositions, leaving no one doubting the veracity of their musical commitment. They’ve just announced their new album Astronomicon which drops April 7th on Iron Long Records alongside their title track which Noisey has deemed “Psych Rock + Devo + Jodorowsky.”

The 9 song platter, recorded with engineer/guru Tim Green (Sleater-Kinney, Melvins, The Fucking Champs), builds a shape-shifting pinnacle of sound, a pounding rhythmic core armored with hard riffs, cloaked in swaths of colorful synths and striped with soaring, searing leads and knife-sharp vocals – bringing tones and shades reminiscent of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Previously sharing stages with Dinosaur Jr., Dead Meadow and more, Nudity hit the West Coast this month on a tour that kicks off tomorrow in Seattle and includes dates in Olympia, LA, Portland and more (full list of dates below).

Nudity is the latest distillation of a sound that guitarist/singer Dave Harvey and select heavy players that have been honing since the band’s 2005 formation. The current lineup might be their most impressive yet, bringing talent from bands such as the Tight Bro’s From Way Back When, Hysterics, The Need, Sex/Vid, Broken Water and more. Nudity IS: Dave Harvey on guitar and vocals, Stephie Crist on guitar, Rachel Carns on synths, Abigail Ingram on bass, and Tanar Stalker on drums, as well as underground filmmaker Joaquin de la Puente on live visuals.

Astronomicon features driving uptempo beats, ringing choruses, and twin-guitar harmonies that segue into improvised jams invoking the MC5 at their Sun Ra-channeling best, cruise through talkbox-laden breakdowns and finish with pulse-revving big bang crescendos. Inspiration for the tracks came from places as lofty as long summers spent working fire lookouts on remote mountaintops, to lowly as a need for cathartic musical release after inter-band fights.

As its arresting cover imagery suggests, Nudity pulls listeners to a place where the earthiest, most carnal human attributes bend around to meet supernal desires, while vouching that lovers of grit-filled Rock’n’roll get a headbanging fix. You can liken it to time travel, space travel, or space-time travel, but once on board, Nudity will take you to sonic frontiers in a style all their own.
