Hot off the heels of the most successful year in White Lies’ career which saw the band sell nearly a quarter of a million tickets worldwide, Charles Cave, songwriter and bassist, has taken a natural pause with the band to restart his solo offerings.
‘Easy Love’ is the first worldwide solo release from Charles in some time, but is to be the first taste of much more new music to follow as the year progresses, culminating in a debut album in the Winter. ‘Easy Love’ will be released via all major streaming platforms, and also available as a digital collectable via Serenade Music at 6 pm on Friday 31st March. The collectable bundles in bonus tracks which include an unheard original demo of the song ‘There is No Cure for It’ which ended up being recorded for White Lies’ hit sixth album, ‘As I Try Not To Fall Apart’ which went to top 20 in several countries.
Charles’ previous releases have gathered praise and support from Noisey (USA) (New Music Premier), Q Magazine (Track Of The Day) and support from Radio X (Shock Of The New, John Kennedy, Dan O’Connell ), Clash Magazine and more.
‘Easy Love’ was composed, and recorded one Sunday afternoon from Cave’s North London flat. And the video made by Cave from public domain home videos. Of the song and video, Charles says:
“This is one unashamedly for the White Lies fans. But the space is filled in a different way, where the vocals are more delicate and caked in reverb which almost begins to nod towards some alternative rock of the 90’s. But this is a hymn really about the work that goes into love. My Dad once said to me ‘Any good relationship is in constant need of repair”, and I think this is a song about that. The video shows what should be happy moments – weddings, family gatherings, but the editing sequence juxtaposed with the song tell perhaps a more troubled story of past and futures.”
