ALBUM PREMIERE: Charlie & Margot – Joyride

Charlie & Margot - Joyride

Blending Americana, indie and alternative, along with several other genres, Joyride, the debut album from Charlie & Margot – the brainchild and project of Matteo DeBenedetti – is a collection of songs that possess a kind of franticness to them, while suggesting to the listener that the journey the music takes them on is far from finished.

Matteo has been writing songs since he was young and is also an established performer, having played in numerous bands on the DIY circuit for ten years. Joyride stems from the introspection – something many of us have experienced – he underwent in 2019, as the world around him began to shut down. As for his project name, that too has a personal connection, with Charlie & Margot being the names of the two dogs he and his wife own.

Asked about the LP, which was produced by Erik Kase Romero who has worked with the likes of Lorde, Matteo shares: “’Joyride’ is a record that’s hugely personal to me, and its intention was to allow a listener to have a little peak into my daily mental life. It was written over the course of a period of self-reflection and during a realization that sometimes searching fruitlessly for the meaning of life can be an exhausting endeavor, and it’s best to let go and enjoy that we’re all on a “joyride”. Sometimes the best thing you can do is to enjoy the beauty, take the pain as it comes and just exist.”

Fall Out Boy and Green Day, but is pretty old school too with Roxette and ABBA on many of her playlists. When not writing, she enjoys travelling far and wide, attending theatre and music shows, reading and spending time with friends.
