VIDEO PREMIERE: Asfixia Social feat Joe D.O.A – Traffic Lights

Asfixia Social

Brazilian funk/punk band Asfixia Social teams up with the legendary hardcore/punk band D.O.A. on the new single ’Traffic Lights’, taken from the forthcoming album.

After releasing the albums Da Rua Pra Rua (From the street to the street) and Sistema De Soma  (Sounsystem Sum), Asfixia Social became one of the most active bands in Brazil. By 2020, they had played hundreds of shows all over the country and also around the world, mainly in Europe.

The Brazilian press lauded the album Sistema De Soma as one of the best albums of 2020. It included a book illustrated by more than 1,000 school students over three years at the band’s Poetry, Hip-Hop, and literature workshops.

Asfixia Social is a mix of Rap, Ska, Punk, Brazilian Music, Funk, Dub, and Hardcore, with lyrics that portray the group’s life and activism in South America’s largest city, São Paulo.

It’s a heady mix of street culture, poetry, and a pulsating sound that was developed by the band travelling around with their own sound system in an old bus covered in graffiti. In addition to live gigs and festivals, the band has been known to turn up at schools, public squares, cultural centres, and favelas across all regions of Brazil. This has led to several cultural awards for the band.

In 2024, the band is planning another European Tour in the summer after first releasing a new album in April.
