The Waves was written looking over a slate, grey skyline from a high rise in Toxteth, Liverpool. Before any notion of a stay-at-home summer, Ali Horn dreams of those carefree precious few days of sunstroke and wide-eyed, beach-warmed love-ins. Back when the only things that mattered were making sure you were there on the trip, in and out of a wetsuit sat next to the girl of your dreams.
Liverpool isn’t world-renowned for its swell. In fact other than attempting to surf the wake behind a Mersey ferry there’s no chance of catching any waves. But that’s not to stop anyone California Dreamin.’ The leaves can rake themselves…..
2019 saw Ali Horn release his debut EP ‘It Wears Off ‘, six songs exploding with hazy pop hooks, sunburst psychedelia, and themes that stray between birth, death, love, and paranoia. ‘Modern Voodoo’ is a fave of BBC 6 Music’s Liz Kershaw and BBC Wales Janice Long. Ali Horn is regularly featured on Fresh on the Net and ‘ Dreamers’ was selected as one of 6 Music’s Tune of 2019. Live sessions for BBC Introducing followed and Ali has been championed by BBC London’s Gary Crowley, Amazing Radio and Radio X. The Waves is the sound of summer about to be lapping our shores.
