English punk rock duo Soft Play (formerly known as Slaves) unleashed their raw, electrifying energy at Nottingham’s Rock City, delivering a night that captured the band’s reputation for intense, unforgettable performances. From the moment Isaac Holman and Laurie Vincent hit the stage, the crowd roared to life: beer-filled plastic cups arced through the air, and the surge of crowd surfers began.

Laurie, always one to bridge the gap between performer and audience, leapt onto the barrier with his guitar, sparking an immediate wave of excitement from the fans, who surged forward to meet him. Not content with the distance the stage imposed, Laurie and Isaac dived into the pit more than once, singing and playing surrounded by their fervent supporters, creating an atmosphere of closeness and chaos that only enhanced the connection.

This fearless, visceral interaction is what sets Soft Play apart. Their minimalist yet powerful instrumentals, paired with lyrics that speak to resilience and rebellion, light a fire in the crowd—a reminder to keep pushing forward, no matter what. XS NOIZE made the trip to Nottingham to witness the duo’s raw power firsthand, and the experience more than delivered.
