With their UK tour starting tomorrow and following rave reviews for their new album On The Edge Of A Lost And Lonely World, today Humanist today share a compelling video for “Born To Be”, which features vocals from Peter Hayes of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, who also stars in the video.
Directed by Marcelo Quiñones of Virtov The Noise, the film was shot on Super 8mm across Mexico, the US and the UK, which adds a unique visual texture. The video aims to create an immersive sensory experience using an analogue format to bring out the raw beauty of the track. Divided into three parts, it starts in the UK with Rob, blending landscapes and urban scenes. The second part, filmed in Los Angeles, follows Peter through desolate spaces, adding a layer of introspection. The third segment, set in the chaotic streets of Mexico City, uses fragmented imagery to reflect a turbulent reality. This collaboration across three nations underscores the core message of Humanism – strengthening the union of diverse cultures through a shared artistic vision.
Commenting on “Born To Be”, Rob Marshall of Humanist says: “At the centre of the record lies perhaps my proudest collaboration to date. There are often things unspoken but understood. A synergy between sound and word. Once again, during a time of uncertainties and lockdown, music found its way to guide us along unknowingly but reassuringly. Peter Hayes channels the restless energy of existential reflection into a song that resonates with deep emotional impact. It has a darkness but also a brooding optimism. It’s a reminder that even in our most vulnerable moments, there’s an underlying strength that can propel us forward. Peter’s storytelling, creates a journey that is both introspective and outward-reaching, resonating with anyone who’s ever questioned their place in the world.”
