Background

Imagine Dragons was formed in 2009 in the bustling city of Las Vegas, Nevada. After noting their passion for music while at Brigham Young University in Utah, lead singer Dan Reynolds and guitarist Wayne Sermon decided to collaborate. The duo played gigs in small venues before they recruited Ben Mckee and Daniel Platzman to join their band of Merrymen.

The chemistry was evident; their performances had more sparks after they relocated to Las Vegas. The diverse cultures and vibrant nightlife in the city offered the band numerous opportunities to evolve and gain a fanbase. After a few years of dedication and playing in small venues, the band’s breakthrough moment came in 2012.

The year of the Dragons began when the band’s debut album “Night Visions” and its lead single “It’s Time” were released in 2012 by Interscope Records. It gave the band the attraction they worked for; the Legend of Imagine Dragons was being scripted.

Live concerts and tours

Authenticity, vigour, and a dynamic stage presence: Imagine Dragons are one of the kings of live performances. The band’s simplicity is different from their stage presence; they come alive while on stage, delivering electric performances one after the other with raw energy and passion. The band has performed numerous gigs around the world to teeming audiences with a healthy hunger for a taste of their fame.

The Las Vegas indie rockers played 28 shows in cafes and bars for their “The Fall Tour” in the fall of 2012. This trek was a warm-up gig with a few hints of the band’s upcoming album to be released in 2012.

The North American tour kicked off in the band’s hometown in Las Vegas at the Hard Rock Café on the Strip on 5th September. Imagine Dragons played several gigs in clubs and other smaller venues, including venues in Detroit, Chicago, Philadelphia, Kansas, and many more.

Into The Night Tour

With the release of their debut album “Night Visions,” the band’s meteoric rise began. The album’s singles, like “It’s Time,” “Radioactive,” and “Demons,” dominated charts around the world and propelled the band into the limelight, which led to their first significant tour. The album debuted at number two on the US Billboard 200, topped the Rock Albums chart, and became Spotify’s “Most Streamed Album in the UK” in 2013. The album achieved numerous accolades; thus, a radioactive tour was announced.

“Into The Night Tour” fed on the radioactive success of the band’s platinum-selling debut album. A 21-date arena tour that ran from February 8 at the Taco Bell Arena in Boise, Idaho, and was concluded at Denver’s Pepsi Centre on March 15. The cross-country trek was massive; the alt-rock band Naked and Famous joined the Dragons to bring their electric stage energy to various North American cities in the United States and Canada.

Although the venues were not O2 Arena status, they were big enough for the band to showcase their stage skills; also, it was a setting that allowed them to connect intimately with fans. Dan Reynolds occasionally jumped into crowds, creating that artist-fan connection, which was a key factor in the band’s success.

Smoke + Mirrors Tour

The Las Vegas outfit played 109 shows across the Americas, Asia, Oceania, and Europe in support of their second studio album, “Smokes + Mirrors.” The album was released on February 17, 2015, topping charts in the United States, the UK, and other countries. Mercury World Tour

Billboard’s “Biggest Band of 2017” hit the road again in 2022 to promote their fifth studio album, “Mercury—Acts 1 & 2.” A melodic piece, the first act was focused on “dealing with grief, death, and the shock of that,” Dan Reynolds said in an interview with Pollstar. Whereas the second part focused on life after accepting the melancholic truth that all living things will breathe and die.

The tour began on February 6, 2022, at the FTX Arena in Miami and concluded in Berlin, Germany, at the Olympiastadion on September 10, 2023. This was the band’s first major outing post-COVID-19. Dates in Russia and Ukraine had to be cancelled because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine sparking unrest and insecurity issues.

The tour featured a circular stage setup for some shows, allowing Reynolds to connect with fans from all angles on a 360-degree view.
