Eirewave prepares to launch 250km of Non-Stop Pop Rock – from Wicklow to Belfast in DAB+ quality

Eirewave

Ad-Free Station Set to Unite the Emerald Isle with Seamless Digital Sound. Belfast – Eirewave, the ad-free pop-rock radio station loved across Ulster, is preparing to expand its reach with a bold ambition: a seamless 250 km DAB+ signal from Wicklow to Belfast, delivering uninterrupted music across the Emerald Isle.

With a DAB+ trial licence granted by Coimisiún na Meán for Dublin and parts of Leinster, Eirewave is now working closely with FáilteDAB, the operator of the multiplex in the region, to secure a place on the digital transmission network.

“We’re incredibly grateful to Coimisiún na Meán for their support and their commitment to diversity on the airwaves,” says Olivier Mauxion, founder of Eirewave. “We’ve opened discussions with FáilteDAB, and we’re confident that a technical solution will be found very soon. We’re ready to go—we just need a slot.”

Already broadcasting via 14 DAB+ transmitters across Ulster—including Belfast, Derry, Newry, Armagh, Down, Lisburn, and Strabane—Eirewave reaches over 1.5 million potential listeners. The station offers a unique listening experience: non-stop, ad-free pop and rock from Irish and UK artists like U2, Snow Patrol, The Cranberries, Ash, Coldplay, and Muse.

With its entry into the FáilteDAB multiplex, Eirewave would deliver a continuous, high-quality signal across 250 km, allowing drivers and commuters to enjoy seamless digital sound from the Wicklow Hills to the Mourne Mountains, with no need to retune.

“It’s more than music—it’s a cultural connection,” Mauxion explains. “From Dublin to Belfast, Armagh to Bray, we’re building a bridge between provinces, giving the Emerald Isle a shared musical voice.”

Launched on 24 March 2025, the FáilteDAB trial multiplex introduced 25 stations to Dublin and surrounding counties. Eirewave’s addition would bring a new flavour to the lineup: a station with no ads, no presenters—just timeless pop-rock hits from the 80s, 90s, 2000s and today, designed for listeners around the age of 40, equally loved by men and women.

“Our audience grew up with concerts, cassettes and vinyl,” Mauxion says. “Now they want that same energy, but in DAB+ quality, with no interruptions.”

This expansion represents more than a technical rollout—it’s a celebration of shared heritage, sound, and identity. By spanning Leinster and Ulster, Eirewave brings together communities through the music that unites us.

“We’re almost there,” Mauxion concludes. “We call on our listeners to support the final step—share the message, spread the sound, and help bring Eirewave to all of Ireland.”

Eirewave is live on DAB+ across Ulster and streaming online at www.eirewave.com.
