ALBUM REVIEW: Alec Meza - Ah! Real Lovers!

Alec Meza has delivered an album that captivates and elevates in equal measure. Ah! Real Lovers! is packed with both substance and style and takes you on an intriguing journey full of twists and turns.

From the melodic acoustic introduction of “Ah!” to the blistering indie punk joy of “Let’s See a Fight!”, you’re never quite sure where this album will drag you next – and that’s what I love about it. Alec Meza is an artist brimming with diverse and eclectic ideas and serves up each song with the utmost conviction and enthusiasm.

That energy is perfectly bottled on the outrageously catchy “Paperboy!” and is also evident on the album’s best track in my opinion, the menacing groove-laden “Bite My Tongue!” – you may have realised by now that Alec is fond of an exclamation mark (!) but the songs suit that signal of intent and the punctuation obsession offers a well-directed clue to the uncompromising delivery of the seven tracks on parade.

The album’s closer is another surprise in the shape of a beautiful jazzy, bluesy instrumental that drifts effortlessly along and provides a chilled summer soundtrack, perfect for the next time you get to swing on a hammock on a sun-drenched island.

Ah! Real Lovers! is an album that really brings out the artist’s personality and individuality and allows us to step into the fun and full-on world of Alec Meza. This is a truly cool record!
