The Grahams’ acclaimed album ‘The Bridge’ is the result of the couple – Alyssa and Doug, together since childhood – taking a hyper personal approach to songwriting in which they commit their deepest personal truths to their strongest collection of music to date.
Today sees The Grahams go even further into those tales and experiences as they now share the expanded Deluxe Edition of the album. The album is launched alongside a video for the band’s recent radio single ‘Georgette’. Watch it BELOW:
A tribute to the couple’s 7-year-old daughter, ‘Georgette’ will strike a chord with parents. It hones in on a specific element of the experience of parenthood: the magic and mystery of who your child will grow-up to be. Georgette herself features in the video, as both a silhouette and in close-up, while a second adult silhouette imagines the myriad adventures she will embark upon in the decades to come. The song’s unorthodox atmosphere – nostalgia for a future as yet unwritten – is matched by the grainy, flickering Super 8-style visual aesthetic. Beyond a mere music video, it’s also a memento that Georgette can revisit when she herself is a parent.
Alyssa Graham says, “It’s hard to get a 7-year-old to lip sync, even if she is an extrovert. We wanted our daughter Georgette to be part of the video but also wanted to protect her privacy and honour her sense of mystery. The concept for the video is to imagine who she will become knowing the little bit we know about her in seven years. The possibilities are endless. The sad reality is we probably won’t be around for a good portion of it. Georgette is a force, she is a goddess and we know she will live a beautiful and wondrous life. We will stick around as long as we can to see every magical moment.”

As well as the radio edit of ‘Georgette’, the Deluxe Edition of ‘The Bridge’ features two brand new songs in the shape of ‘Nobody Stays’ and ‘Beyond This Lifetime’. Both songs tap into the sense of impermanence that looms ever larger as the years go by. The haunting, piano-led Americana ballad ‘Nobody Stays’ is, on the surface, a reflection on a break-up. Yet it can also be interpreted as a rumination on how other aspects of life never quite remain static, whether it’s the loss of someone who has passed away, moving on from a family home, or departing the place you’ve grown up in. ‘Beyond This Lifetime’ then looks at how the spirit of love can transcend the limitations of our lifespan.
‘The Bridge’ era has seen The Grahams make a fresh impression with ongoing airplay at Amazing Radio and fresh coverage including House of Solo, Northern Exposure and XS Noize.
That will continue as The Grahams are now counting down the days until their UK headline tour gets underway in Edinburgh. Accompanied by their full live band, they promise to bring new songs from ‘The Bridge’ “along with a few old favourites and probably a couple of stories we shouldn’t tell.” Remaining tickets for the dates listed below are available HERE.
