‘Broken Boys’ is the brand new track from The WAEVE – composed of Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall – and is out now.
‘Broken Boys’ is the propulsive Cabaret Voltaire-like third single taken from the band’s upcoming second studio album, City Lights, set for release on 20th September 2024 via Transgressive Records. Featuring Coxon’s signature guitar sound and a melody captured by Dougall’s unique vocals, it follows the agitated, art-rock squall of the first single (and title track) ‘City Lights’; and the anthemic and expansive second single ‘You Saw’.
To celebrate the release of City Lights, The WAEVE will play four very special live performances at Rough Trade, as follows: Rough Trade Liverpool on 20th September; Rough Trade Nottingham on 21st September (SOLD OUT); Rough Trade Bristol on 23rd September (SOLD OUT), and Rough Trade East, London on 24th September. The band will return to London later this year for a sold-out performance – and their biggest headline show to date – at the Village Underground, London, on 29th October.

The Rough Trade shows follow an extensive summer tour that has seen The WAEVE pack out venues from tents to castles – and everything in between! – across a run of festival and show dates, including a headline slot at Latitude’s Sunrise Arena, Green Man Festival; eight dates with Elbow, including a performance at Audley End; and a high-profile show at Warwick Castle with Noel Gallagher.
Today, a new performance film series, City Lights Sessions, will launch, capturing every song from the band’s upcoming album. Captured artfully and at close range in a studio setting, directed by Natalia Pages, the performances contain captivating full-band live renditions of material from the new record. The first three songs released today from the series mark the first three songs released from the album, ‘City Lights’, ‘You Saw’ and ‘Broken Boys’, with the remaining seven songs unveiled in the coming weeks. Watch HERE.
A year after their acclaimed eponymous debut album, The WAEVE is back with City Lights, a collection of 10 songs that illustrate the evolution of their collaborative musicianship and sees the band’s sound solidified into something bolder, more expansive and self-assured. Written by Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall and produced once again by James Ford, the album features Graham and Rose on vocals, as well as keyboards, guitar, bass guitar, drums and saxophone.
