The Pogues Set for UK and Ireland Tour in 2025

The Pogues

The Pogues reunited for the second time in 2024 to commemorate the 40 year anniversary of their debut album, Red Roses for Me. They are set to embark on a tour of the UK and Ireland in 2025, celebrating that album and the follow-up that was released a year later.

Despite being made up of a combination of Irish and English members, the band reinvigorated traditional Irish music in the 1980s. They helped more people discover Irish culture, and this led other content from the country to flourish in the entertainment industry in the decades that followed.

The Reunion Marks a New Chapter for the Band

After two stints together between 1982 and 1996, and 2001 to 2014, the Pogues have reformed once again. This could spark a new chapter in the band’s history, with the main members now comprising of Spider Stacy, Jem Finer, and James Fearnley. The three confirmed in a Rolling Stone interview that they would be putting on seven shows in May this year.

The tour will mainly consist of the old classics, with the band likely to play their first two albums in their entirety. However, it could also lead to a new era for the band and some fresh music in the coming years. That will certainly be the case if the tour attracts enough interest from old and new fans alike.

The Pogues Put Irish Culture in the Spotlight

The Pogues’ influence on Irish culture can’t be understated, and there’s no doubt that the band led more people to pursue an interest in the country and its history. Since their mainstream success, other Irish content has thrived in popular culture. Some of the great acts that came about in the Pogues’ wake include the Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly.

It doesn’t end with music, though. There’s also been a greater influx of Irish content in other areas of entertainment, such as iGaming. Ireland has famously been associated with symbols of good fortune, which is why Irish-themed games are so prevalent in the slots market. Rainbow Riches is one of the oldest titles to use Irish themes, featuring rainbows, golden coins, and a leprechaun. The classic game has been around since before the online casino industry existed, highlighting how popular it is among players from different generations.

Which Cities Will The Pogues Visit?

For the Pogues’ first headline tour in more than 13 years, things will kick off at the O2 Academy in Leeds on the 1st of May. According to a piece in NME, the band will then journey around the UK with stops in Birmingham, London, Glasgow, Manchester, and Newcastle.

Seeing as it’s marking the anniversary of the Pogues’ second album, fans can expect to hear some of the greatest songs of their history. These include A Pair of Brown Eyes, Sally MacLennane, and their legendary version of Dirty Old Town.

The Pogues’ reunion tour is set to be a huge event for old and new fans alike, and will hopefully spur the band on to create some fresh material.
