Taylor Swift continues record breaking ERAS tour in London

Taylor Swift Eras Tour 2024

“Wembley, are you ready?” Taylor Swift performs live again at the historic Wembley Stadium in the UK. For five nights expect another seismic wave from the Swifties and Taylor’s vocals and it is going to be epic, as always.

The pop icon already held a glamorous show in London in June that saw Swifties in all parts of the United Kingdom troupe in their numbers to watch Travis Kelce’s sweetheart perform.

At Wembley Stadium, she delivered a breathtaking, rapid-fire show that felt like a whirlwind and she’s set for an even more puissant show accompanied by some live stage theatrical performances.

Previous show at Wembley

Taylor Swift had already performed 103 concerts in 36 cities before her Eras tour arrived at Wembley Stadium in London on June 21. Having been on tour for a year, three months, and four days, Swift’s extensive three-and-a-half hour set list features more than 40 songs from her 11 albums, or “eras” (and since the tour began, she has performed almost 200 “surprise” songs not on the official setlist).

The scale of the event is almost unimaginable, both conceptually and in reality. The tour’s initial UK dates in Edinburgh saw the city inundated with hundreds of thousands of fans. Every bar played her music and served free cocktails, while every shop displayed a regretful sign: “Sorry, we are sold out of Taylor Swift merch.”

None of this compares to the sheer grandeur of the on-stage spectacle: a vivid, whirlwind performance that goes by in a flash and is far less exhausting than one might expect. Swift ascends through the stage, encircled by dancers, to a snippet from her euphoric, romantic album “Lover.” After the crowd’s roar quiets slightly, she introduces herself with a playfully understated, “Oh, hi!” before diving into the fan-favorite pop anthem “Cruel Summer,” complete with a thrilling, sing-along bridge.

This opening sets a high standard for the remaining hours, which wildly traverse various genres and moods—from her earliest sweet country ballads about first love to the fierce, hip-hop-influenced revenge tracks of “Reputation”; and from the chart-topping, Max Martin-produced pop hits of the early 2010s to the intricate, introspective indie folk of her pandemic-era albums “Folklore” and “Evermore.”

Then came the introduction of her 11th album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, adding an intriguing, meta layer to the show. She performed songs created during the first leg of the tour itself, including “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart,” where she boasts about “hitting my marks” despite being “miserable… and no one even knows!” (She performs this track after her dancers reluctantly coax her into a glittery tuxedo.)

Tour records so far

The 14-time Grammy Award winner released her highly anticipated and critically acclaimed album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ on the 19th of April, 2023. The album is her 11th studio album featuring 31 tracks, including bonus songs. It was a commercial success, grossing $1.4 million in a single day and $1.5 million in the first week of sales. Only Taylor does this. And, 700,000 of those sold copies were vinyl.

This broke her record for the largest sales week for an album on vinyl in the modern era. Taylor has been setting the pace for a long and has also been beating her own pace, setting a new one along the way.

She amassed more than 300 million streams in a day on Spotify. That was a record breaker for her album and any album on Spotify. TTPD also surpassed one billion streams in a single week. It now stands as the fastest album in history to hit that milestone.

Economic impact

The ‘Eras Tour’ which kicked off in March 2023 has been a commercial success globally, and Taylor Swift London tickets have generated huge revenues.

Among her 152 shows featured across five continents,  the earth practically shook it off with the Swifties while she performed “Shake it off” at her two nights in Seattle. The performance resulted in a “Swift Quake” and seismic activities were recorded – equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.

Her ‘Eras Tour’ concert film was nominated for Best Cinematic at the Golden Globe Awards, making it the first concert to be nominated for a Golden Globe. Also, the tour has been a huge boost for local economies in the United States.

The U.S. Travel Association estimated an approximate figure generated by the tour to be more than $5 billion. A massive economic value, Taylor is to the U.S. economy. Surely, the Swifties will be out in their numbers if she contests for the President of the United States.

The second return of Taylor Swift at Wembley

The Eras Tour has become the highest-grossing tour of all time and it’s not finished yet. The tour of the century will return to Wembley Stadium in London where Swifties in their thousands are anticipating the pop queen’s arrival.

Swift is set for another five nights in Wembley as part of her trek to give back to the Swifties in song, dance and fashion. Surely, she will rock it by performing  songs from her old albums and also, some songs from her recent ‘Tortured Poets Department Album’.
