Skerryvore have risen from modest roots to become a band able to embark upon global touring adventures, in the process also rising up the UK charts and landing a wealth of key airplay. So when it was time to plan their 20th anniversary festivities, they organised something special to commemorate that landmark with a unique live event at the historic Floors Castle in Roxburghshire, Scotland.
It was a beautiful backdrop to a day that fans, who had travelled from as far afield as Alaska and Australia, hailed as “a celebration to remember.” Now Skerryvore document the occasion with the release of ‘Skerryvore XX – Live At Floors Castle’ is out now.
‘Skerryvore XX – Live At Floors Castle’ captures the magic of an unforgettable night, starting with a celebration of their roots and heritage with ‘Path To Home’. The mood remains electrifying throughout, from early favourites ‘Home To Donegal’ to their current single ‘The Sea That Sings’, which is still playlisted at Radio 2. Joined on select songs by special guests The Eves, Nathan Carter and Grant Cassidy, the set’s energy builds throughout until ‘Take My Hand’ makes for a phenomenal finale, elevated by the majestic presence of The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Pipes and Drums.
Skerryvore’s Alec Dalglish commented, “We hope that this new live album encapsulates everything that was so incredible about our 20th anniversary show at Floors Castle. Celebrating with fans, friends and family from all corners of the planet made it the gig of a lifetime for us and we hope that it shines through on this recording. We’re forever grateful to everyone who has made it possible for us to get to twenty years as a band and we can’t wait to see what the next twenty brings us.”
The album offers a memento to keep for the 7000 who were present, as well a thrilling testimony to the crowd-pleasing thrills of a band who are three-time winners of Live Act of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards.
BBC Alba broadcast a special show to commemorate the occasion, which combined highlights of Skerryvore’s set, new interview footage, and songs from the day’s supporting line-up. It is available on iPlayer HERE.
The release of ‘Live At Floors Castle’ also heightens anticipation as the latest leg of their 80-date 20th anniversary tour continues. It spans the UK, Europe and North America, with highlights including a long sold-out Glasgow Barrowlands show, their biggest London gig so far at Islington Assembly Hall, and a run of major Stateside festivals.
