Pale Blue Eyes released their third studio album, New Place, on their label, Broadcast Recordings, on March 7th. The album features guest appearances from two musicians who have been part of the Pale Blue Eyes live lineup—Tom Sharkett, producer and guitarist with W.H. Lung, and producer/musician Lewis Johnson-Kellett.

Today, XS Noize is thrilled to premiere an exclusive short film documenting the making of New Place.

“Shot over the Summer and Autumn of 2024, this is a brief snapshot of the making of our third album ‘New Place’. Recorded at our home studio in Sheffield and captured by good friend, filmmaker and photographer Eddy Massarella. This short film is a lovely and personal insight into the process of these album sessions.” – Matt Board (band)

“The process of creating the film began in Matt and Lucy’s upstairs spare room, with a camera, a few synths, a couple of guitars, and a mic or two. Over the next few months, after a lengthy studio build, I dipped in and out of their recording process. My approach was to view it as authentically as possible. After all, it was being made in the backyard of their home — a place not regularly associated with making a record, but one that, now it’s finished, speaks volumes about how grounded it feels from track one through twelve.

Once all the footage had been shot and the record had been final mixed, I wanted to create something that allowed the audience to dip their toes in, seeing who and where had an influence on its making.” – Eddy Massarella (director)
