Gary Numan, one of electronic music’s most enduring and influential pioneers, brought his epic live show to Nottingham’s Rock City on 25 November, and the atmosphere was nothing short of electric.
Calling the venue “buzzing” doesn’t quite capture it; the room crackled with anticipation for what many fans considered one of the most eagerly awaited gigs of 2025.

From the moment Numan stepped onstage, the crowd knew they were in for something special. The staging, lighting, and sound were executed with cinematic precision, while the band’s striking outfits added to the show’s futuristic aesthetic. Numan himself was a force of nature — constantly in motion, locked in with the audience, pouring emotion into every moment.
Midway through the set, he paused, visibly moved, and thanked the crowd with tears in his eyes. Rock City responded with a roar of applause and support so loud it felt like it might spill out onto the surrounding streets.

This run of shows arrives during an incredibly difficult period for Numan, who recently learned of the passing of his brother, John. Despite his grief, he chose to continue with the tour, speaking candidly about his loss to the Nottingham audience. They received his honesty with warmth and compassion — a powerful exchange that made the night feel even more meaningful.

Yet none of this diminished Numan’s intensity or presence. He delivered a performance brimming with power, precision, and charisma — a reminder of why his live shows have long been considered a benchmark for stagecraft, innovation, and connection.
