From chart-topping success with The View to collaborating with Mark Ronson and writing the acclaimed ‘No Love Songs’ musical, Kyle Falconer has carved an enthralling and unpredictable career as one of the most distinctive voices in Scottish music.

He underlines that reputation with his most singular solo album to date, the guest-filled ‘Lovely Night of Terror’, which will be released on March 27th via Modern Sky / Run On Records.

‘Lovely Night of Terror’ is an album born from Kyle Falconer’s songwriting retreat experiences at his La Sierra Casa studio in Alicante, Spain. Joined by a host of renowned musicians, Kyle leads guests through inspiring songwriting masterclasses and recording sessions – all within a stunningly scenic, sun-kissed escape perfect for fuelling creativity. Not only has he helped numerous aspiring songwriters to find their voice, but it has also resulted in the most essential solo album of his career to date.

The album was written, performed and produced by Kyle Falconer and Andy Gannon (Courteeners, DMA’S) at La Sierra Casa in 2025. It is packed with unique collaborators from the retreat’s special guests, including Justin Hawkins of The Darkness, Jamie Webster, Lottery Winners and Dave McCabe of The Zutons. Its diverse array of collaborators is complemented by Kyle’s distinctive style, with deeply personal introspective moments, lyrics which balance melancholy and street-level poetry, and a spirited determination to keep battling through your struggles.

Kyle says, “I think the album title came to me once we really got into making the songs. Every day I was picking the kids up from school saying, ‘I’ve got another cracker!’ I’d have them blasting the tracks, and my wife would come in too — seeing their reactions made it feel like something really special was happening while we were recording.

It was around Christmas in 2024, and we were out in the countryside in Spain, in the middle of nowhere. There was nowhere to go, nowhere to hide, which gave the whole thing a strange but brilliant energy. All the songs I write have quite dark meanings, but they’re also happy. I love that oxymoron. I love horror films and trying to capture that sense of collective madness.”

Kyle introduces the album by sharing its lead single ‘Midas Touch’, which features The Libertines / Babyshambles / Puta Madres legend Peter Doherty. It’s a song that lives up to expectations as the duo duet on a shimmering summery alt-pop anthem infused with sleeky R&B-tinged grooves. Lyrically it’s indicative of both artists’ flair for exploring the regrets and nostalgia that comes with ill-fated romance.

Kyle adds, “I thought it would be cool to get someone to sing on it who wasn’t known for doing pop, and Pete felt like an obvious choice. He was playing in Edinburgh, so I took my kids to see him — and he had his baby there as well. It was a great moment. We were backstage during soundcheck and he was saying it sounded like Michael Jackson. It was funny singing and dancing along to it with him, just having a good time. Pete was one of my heroes growing up, so doing a song like that with him was pretty special.”

Collectively, ‘Lovely Night of Terror’ steps outside of The View’s indie-rock heart primarily with driving, upbeat alt-pop alongside excursions into Americana, tender balladry and atmospheric soundscapes. Its themes are relatable and delivered with Kyle’s distinct charisma, with emotional volatile themes ranging from regrets and shame, to the expectations and responsibilities of family life, and struggling to rebound from sinking into self-pity.

Kyle Falconer shot to prominence in 2007 with The View’s Mercury-nominated #1 debut album ‘Hats Off To Buskers’ – and the enduring festival favourites are still immensely popular having achieved a #6 chart position with their 2023 album ‘Exorcism of Youth’. He is highly regarded by other major talents, notably Mark Ronson who invited him to perform on ‘The Bike Song’ and tour with his Business Intl. project, and Liam Gallagher who has twice enlisted Kyle as support on major arena tours. ‘No Love Songs’ then earned a Best Musical nomination at the Edinburgh Fringe and has subsequently launched in the USA and Australia, while this will be his fourth solo set after ‘No Thank You’ (2018), ‘No Love Songs For Laura’ (2021) and ‘The One I Love The Most’ (2025).
