Tom Smith, the unmistakable voice of Editors, will play an intimate headline show at Mandela Hall, Belfast, on 6th May 2026. This rare solo appearance sees Smith performing a selection of brand-new material alongside reimagined favourites from the Editors catalogue — a unique chance to experience one of the UK’s most distinctive voices up close.

After two decades leading Editors through seven acclaimed albums, plus two records with Smith & Burrows, Tom Smith has stepped into new creative territory with his debut solo album, There Is Nothing In The Dark That Isn’t There In The Light. Driven by a desire to return to the raw, acoustic foundations of his songwriting, the project marks a shift toward something more personal, contemplative, and emotionally direct.

Originally planning to shape these songs with longtime collaborator Andy Burrows, Smith ultimately chose a more solitary route — turning to producer Iain Archer to help bring the record’s intimate world to life. Together, they created a deeply honest collection built on acoustic textures, lyrical vulnerability, and themes of connection, memory, and resilience.

From the gentle emotional pull of opening track ‘Deep Dive’ — the album’s beating heart — to the stark ache of ‘Broken Time’ and the sweeping drama of ‘Life Is For Living’, Smith blends stripped-back simplicity with cinematic flourishes. Songs such as ‘Lights Of New York City’ glow with nostalgic longing, while ‘Northern Line’ and ‘How Many Times’ reflect on friendship, distance, and the imprint of past lives. The album closes on ‘Saturday’, a bittersweet portrait of fleeting intimacy.

Though threaded with melancholy, the record ultimately radiates hope — capturing an artist reconnecting with himself and revealing the essence of his craft as never before.

Tom Smith’s Mandela Hall date offers fans a rare opportunity to hear these songs live in an intimate setting. This night promises reflection, reinvention, and one of indie rock’s most powerful voices at its rawest and most exposed.
