Multi-award-winning rock band, Coldplay will be continuing the European leg of their widely acclaimed ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour in Munich. This will not be Coldplay’s first tour in Germany for the concert as the British band will also be at the Merkur Spiel-arena on 21st July in Dusseldorf.

It’ll be the second time the four-man band will be performing in Germany this year after previously holding their concert at the 54,000 Merkur Spiel-Arena in Düsseldorf in July.

The show at Düsseldorf was yet another exciting masterpiece as Coldplayers got to enjoy a whirlwind of some of their favourite Coldplay songs.

After a three-day concert in Dusseldorf, the Chris Martin-led band continued their tour in Finland with a four-day performance at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.

The Olympiastadion in Munich will usher in Coldplay’s first set of shows in Munich from August 15 to 18.

It is safe to say that Munich and Germany generally are one of Coldplay’s favourite countries to perform. The band have witnessed a high number of streams and chat-topping records in Germany and fans can expect an electrical performance from the band who will ‘feel at home’ while on stage.

Records held in Germany

The London-based quartet, established in the late nineties, stands as one of the most successful bands globally in the 21st century. In Germany alone, they have seen five of their albums climb to the top of the charts.

Among their most famous tracks are “Speed of Sound,” “Viva la Vida,” and “Paradise.” Coldplay has graced the Olympic Park stage four times so far. Their performances include a concert at the Olympic Hall in September 2008, two shows at the Olympic Stadium in September 2012 and June 2017, and an unforgettable open-air gig in front of 10,000 enthusiastic fans at Coubertin Square during their park debut in July 2005.

Ahead of their show in Munich, Coldplay will be making history by setting a record with three concerts on August 15, 17, and 18, 2024. No international act has ever performed more consecutive open-air concerts under a tent roof at this venue.

Ahead of the show at the Olympiastadion, Xsnoize brings you up to speed with everything you should know about the concert in Munich.

New album release

In June, Coldplay announced their latest album, Moon Music, which will premiere on October 4. The band announced it on June 13 with a visually stunning teaser, showcasing the song’s title across a dimming planet surrounded by a vibrant corona. Truly cosmic!

Before the official release, they treated fans to a sneak peek on TikTok, where Chris Martin sang a snippet of the chorus in front of a neon-lit Ferris wheel. He sang, “It feels like I’m falling in love/ You’re throwing me a lifeline/ Oh, not for the first time/ I know I’m not alone.” And to keep the momentum going, they previewed the song during their performance at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, just before it was released on June 21.

You can grab it in stores and on streaming platforms starting October 4, 2024.

Sustainability

Coldplay’s commitment to sustainability shines through not only in their ongoing tour—where they’ve impressively cut CO2e emissions by 59% compared to their previous stadium tour—but also in their approach to the physical release of ‘Moon Music’.

It won’t be any different in Munich and the band will once again prioritize measures that will drastically reduce CO2 emissions.

Kinetic dance floors might be another measure having been utilised in most of Coldplay’s shows so far.

Eco records

In a pioneering move, this album will be the first in the world to be released as a 140g EcoRecord LP, with each copy crafted from 9 recycled PET-plastic bottles sourced from post-consumer waste. This initiative will prevent the production of over 25 metric tons of virgin plastic and reduce CO2 emissions by 85% per kilogram compared to traditional vinyl.

Grossing records

Coldplay has left the world wondering about the possibility of achieving a well-planned tour with environmentally conscious measures.

Despite taking excessive measures to ensure the ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour is as environmentally conscious as possible, this hasn’t stopped Coldplayers from trooping in their numbers to watch the British band perform.

Thousands of fans are expected to rally again at the Olympiastadion in Munich to watch the band back up their grossing records with wireless performances.

Having amassed over $500 million, the British band made Billboard Bozscore history by becoming just the second band to achieve a half-billion double-up in the top 10 highest-grossing tours of all time, behind the Rolling Stones.

The ‘Music of the Spheres’ tour leapt to No. 1 of the highest-grossing tour by a group after just 13 concerts where they grossed $100.5.

They’re well on their way to joining Taylor Swift’s ‘Eras Tour’  in reaching the $1 billion mark in global concerts according to a preview by Pollstar.

Partnership

Coldplay has also teamed up with The Ocean Cleanup to produce a special edition of ‘Moon Music’ called the Notebook Edition EcoRecord LP. This version is made from rPET and includes 70% river plastic, intercepted from the Rio Las Vacas in Guatemala, stopping it from flowing into the Gulf of Honduras and the Atlantic Ocean.

CDs

For fans of CDs, ‘Moon Music’ will be the first album ever released on EcoCDs, which are made from 90% recycled polycarbonate collected from post-consumer waste streams. This effort will cut CO2 emissions by at least 78% per kilogram and prevent the creation of over five metric tons of virgin plastic.

Coldplay’s dedication to sustainability is truly remarkable, and we eagerly anticipate enjoying ‘Moon Music’ in these environmentally conscious formats.

Setlist

Coldplay has a plethora of songs that have graced the ears of music lovers globally.

It is difficult to find a song from the band that is sung in lip sync, rather everyone cheerfully raises their voice in synchronization, to sing most of Coldplay’s greatest hits word for word.
