British rock band Coldplay has been traveling around the world, entertaining fans with hits like Yellow and My Universe, as well as their collaboration with K-pop superstars BTS on Higher Power, to promote their ninth and tenth studio albums—Music of the Spheres, released in 2021, and Moon Music, released in 2024.

The announcement came on 15 October 2021, and the tour officially kicked off at Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica on 18 March 2022 and is scheduled to end in London at the famous Wembley Stadium.

This “Music of the Spheres” world tour is the band’s eighth concert tour and, arguably, their best tour since the quartet came together to form the band in 1997. Their run of shows across different continents has earned them accolades from fans and musical critics.

More impressive about the tour is their implementation of  several ecological sustainability measures to reduce its carbon footprints, reduce consumption, and recycle extensively. They have succeeded in cutting their CO2 emissions by 59% compared to their previous tours. Pollstar declared that the band has ushered in “a new era of sustainable touring.”

GROSSING RECORDS

“Music of the Spheres World Tour” has grossed $1.059 billion from tickets sold to over 10 million people across 222 shows, thus, becoming the most-attended tour of all time and the best-selling rock tour in Billboard’s history.

A record previously held by John Elton’s “Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour”, which ran from 2018-2023. The 330 concert became the highest-grossing concert tour of all time, after hitting a landmark of $939.1 million.

However, there have been a few controversies, such as the persistent issue of ticket reselling faced by many artists on tour. Ticketing chaos occurred during sales for their Mumbai shows, causing website crashes and long queues, as ticket touts and secondary markets seized the opportunity to resell tickets at inflated prices.

TOUR SO FAR

Coldplay has made various stops at iconic arenas and stadiums, mesmerizing fans with soulful lyrics and high-energy performances.

The band played at their first-ever concert in Finland during another four-night run at Helsinki’s Olympic Stadium, where they played to more than 178,000 cheering fans. They repeated this feat in Dublin’s Croke Park for four nights, all sold-out concerts which ended on September 1, 2024.

Recently, during a concert at Accor Stadium in Sydney, Chris Martin invited a security guard onstage and handed him a signature alien headgear, one of the concert aesthetics; he wasted no time in bursting down some moves, stealing the show and adding more heat to the night’s performance.

A few more stops in New Zealand at Eden Park, Auckland, will see the band wrap up their run of shows for the year on Thursday, 13 November and weekend performances on Saturday, 15 and Sunday, 16 November 2024.

The band will resume their tour after the Christmas and New Year festivities have come to an end. Their first show would be in Abu Dhabi on 9, 11, 12, and 14 January 2025 at Zayed Sports City Stadium. Another highly anticipated show has to be their concerts in India.

It has been nine years since the band’s last performance in 2016; their announcement of dates in Mumbai on January 18 and 19 2025 sparked excitement among fans and brands in the country.

Durex India, known for its sassy social media vibe, chimed in with a humorous comment, “The only time we’ll say ‘come soon’,” Starbucks India also posted, “Spilled our coffee in pure excitement cause we were waiting for ‘Something Just Like This!’.” India is certainly excited to host the Cosmo quartet at the DY Patil Sports Stadium.

COLDPLAY IN LONDON

Leapfrogging from Hull’s Craven Park Stadium to Wembley, Coldplay will be bringing their unparalleled energy to London. Originally, six dates were announced in August 2025 for their Music of the Spheres World Tour. The ‘Yellow’ band was to perform in August on 22, 23, 26, 27, 30, and 31 only, but due to “phenomenal demand” in tickets during a fan-only presale, the band added four extra dates, 3, 4, 7, and 8 in September.

The addition of these extra dates has broken the record previously held by Taylor Swift for performing at Wembley for 8 nights in a single year. The 10-date concert and the two-night shows at Craven Park will be the band’s only European dates for 2025. They had previously performed a six-night concert at the stadium in August 2022.

As the tour continues to build momentum, fans in London are counting down the days until another round of euphoric performances by Chris Martin and his band of merry-men storms London. The band had announced that 10% of the proceeds generated from the shows in London would be donated to the Music Venue Trust, an organization in the UK that supports grassroots artists’ concert tours in the UK.

“We thought, we can’t possibly get any bigger, let’s get better” Chris Martin made this statement in an interview with NME on May 7, 2008.

He claimed that the band had no interest in popularity and that they just wanted to do what they love doing and do it better every time.

They have proven themselves with each show in this tour, from breaking their highest-grossing record of $523 million to surpassing John Elton’s $939.1 million; Coldplay has earned their place at the top under the spotlight with the “Music of the Spheres Tour”.
