For over a decade, Imagine Dragons have delivered anthemic melodies that have resonated with fans across the globe — from the plains of Idaho to the piazzas of Italy. While debates continue over whether their sound leans more toward arena rock, power pop, or a calculated formula, the undeniable constant has been their music’s emotional imprint on listeners — project after project.
The Las Vegas-based trio — Dan Reynolds, Ben McKee, and Wayne Sermon — might divide opinion among critics and fellow musicians, but few can dispute their knack for creating infectious hits. With 74 million album units moved, 65 million digital song sales, and over 160 billion streams, their commercial success speaks volumes.
Their breakthrough came with the 2012 debut album “Night Visions,” which spawned chart-toppers like “Radioactive,” “Demons,” and “It’s Time ” and established them as a dominant force in modern rock. Since then, the band has proven that guitar-driven music still has a stronghold in the mainstream, with multiple entries across major charts, including prominent spots on the Billboard Hot 100.
Globally, the group has now surpassed 75 million records in sales and ranks among the most-streamed acts ever.
With five additional albums and seven completed tours, Imagine Dragons have carved out their legacy as one of the era’s defining rock groups. Their latest release, “Loom,” which dropped on June 28, 2024, marks a refreshing evolution in sound—one that continues to strike a chord with audiences worldwide.
The “Loom World Tour”
On April 22, 2024, Imagine Dragons revealed plans for their ambitious “Loom World Tour” in support of their sixth studio album “Loom”, released on June 28, 2024. The album — comprising nine tracks, including the lead single “Eyes Closed” — has been widely praised for pairing the band’s trademark intensity with a renewed creative flair, quickly becoming one of the year’s standout albums. The tour started with a dynamic opening in Camden, New Jersey, on July 30, 2024, and is set to wrap with a climactic performance in London on July 26, 2025.
Marking the group’s most expansive tour yet, the “Loom World Tour” spans major arenas and stadiums across North and South America, Asia, and Europe. Each stop features a mix of introspective new material and fan-favourite hits, elevated by visually stunning production and a high-octane stage presence that reflects the spirit of the “Loom” album. The European leg will conclude in London with what promises to be a tour finale for the ages.
In North America, the tour ended in October 2024 with a remarkable four-night run at the Hollywood Bowl. These shows were met with critical acclaim, not just for their orchestral collaborations and vibrant fireworks, but also for Dan Reynolds’ emotional tributes and discussions around mental health — moments that gave fans an intimate connection to the performances.
From there, the tour headed to Asia for a packed leg between November and December 2024, including energetic sets in cities like Kuala Lumpur and Hong Kong. Despite mostly indoor venues, the band brought unmatched energy, with meticulous production design and a welcoming, family-friendly vibe that defined each night.
Come summer 2025, the European leg begins on May 27 at Milan’s Ippodromo Snai La Mura. Following that are two dates — May 29 and 31 — at the 50,000-seat Letzigrund Stadion in Zurich.
The tour then stretches through Tallinn, Stockholm, Trondheim, Prague, and Budapest. Italy will see the band again for three shows in Padua and Naples before they head west to Lisbon’s Estadio da Luz.
Imagine Dragons will continue their European run with stops in Madrid, Barcelona, and Lyon, then mark US Independence Day with a July 4 performance, leading into a massive July 5 show for fans with Imagine Dragons tickets at Paris’ Stade de France. Their debut at Amsterdam’s Johan Cruyff Arena will follow on July 9, with additional shows in Belgium, Copenhagen, Warsaw, Frankfurt, and Lille. It all culminates at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on July 26, 2025 — bringing the “Loom World Tour” to a thrilling close.
As the 2025 tour approaches, we bring you 13 interesting things you need to know about Imagine Dragons.
1: The inspiration behind their stage name remains a mystery.
Imagine Dragons have existed for over a decade, yet the true meaning behind their name remains a mystery. In an interview with Radio.com, Dan Reynolds revealed that not even their family members know what the name signifies.
At one point, he hinted that inserting apostrophes after rearranging the letters could provide a clue, but he later clarified that this suggestion was a misunderstanding. He explained that an apostrophe may or may not play a role in the hidden message.
2. They played at O’Shea’s on the Las Vegas Strip before their fame.
The band’s rise has been nothing short of extraordinary. It all began in 2008 when Dan Reynolds met drummer Andrew Tolman at university. Andrew later introduced his wife, Brittany Tolman, and friend, Wayne Sermon, to the group. Wayne then brought in his former schoolmate, Ben McKee. The band quickly built a loyal following in Provo, Utah, before relocating to Las Vegas, where they performed four nights a week at O’Shea’s and released their first three EPs.
3: Individual challenges
Dan Reynolds has also been open about his struggles. While creating the album “Smoke + Mirrors”, he battled depression. Speaking to news.com.au, he admitted, “The last few years have been the highest highs for me and certainly the lowest lows.” Despite the band’s rising fame, he often felt a deep sense of emptiness, which frightened him—but he ultimately pulled through and overcame that challenging period.
4. Around 15 billion streams in the past decade
Over the past ten years, the band’s success has been nothing short of remarkable—far exceeding what most pop stars might ever attain. According to Luminate, they’ve racked up over 17 million equivalent album units and 14.8 billion official on-demand streams in the United States alone. They’ve earned nineteen songs on the Hot 100, five Top 10 albums on the Billboard 200, twelve placements on the Radio Songs chart—seven breaking into the Top 10 and two reaching No. 1—and nearly twenty Top 10 hits on the Hot Rock Songs chart. Four of their blockbuster singles—”Radioactive”, “Demons,” “Believer,” and “Thunder”—have earned Diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America, a distinction granted in 2013 that includes on-demand streaming. This puts them ahead of any other band and just behind Bruno Mars, who holds five.
Dan Reynolds confessed, “We typically don’t talk numbers much, because it’s just… I don’t even know that it’s overwhelming; we just don’t, really.” His tone turned reflective as he added, “When it’s so wild like that, I think there’s no way to wrap your head around it. It all feels like a simulation – weird, crazy, just like, ‘OK! What does that even mean?'”
Despite their sustained chart success, staggering stats, and loyal global fanbase, the band often feels like it’s spent its entire musical journey just beneath the mainstream radar—outside the sphere of significant media recognition and critical acclaim.
5: The band members have unique personalities.
During an intense set in Las Vegas, Daniel once fainted while playing the drums yet pushed through and finished the performance, demonstrating immense dedication. He also acted in a short film titled “Eagles Are Turning People Into Horses”. Ben stands out for his extraordinary spice tolerance, outpacing the rest of the band. Wayne, who struggles with insomnia, often takes advantage of late hours to create music while others rest. Interestingly, the band’s manager, Mac, is Dan’s brother.
6. Recipients of numerous awards
Billboard honoured Imagine Dragons as the No. 1 Top Rock Artist in 2013 and the second overall in 2014. Their debut album, “Night Visions”, remained on the Billboard 200 for over two years, finishing as the fourth best-selling album of 2013 in the US and third in Canada. That same year, they became the fourth most-streamed artist on Spotify, rising to the No. 2 spot among global groups in 2014.
Their breakout hit “Radioactive” dominated Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart in 2013 and was named the year’s No. 1 Alternative Song. It also set a Billboard Hot 100 record by charting for 87 weeks.
7: They craft their stories.
A major contributor to Imagine Dragons’ success lies in their creative autonomy—essentially being free to shape their narrative on their terms, including selecting singles and acting as their own A&R across albums. “It feels very self-guided with the best possible team supporting us,” Reynolds shared regarding their long-standing relationship with KIDinaKORNER, the Interscope imprint they’ve signed with since 2011. He added, “But we are certainly in charge of our creative direction, especially when it comes to the songs. We’ve chosen them, and it has worked.”
8. Volodymyr Zelenskyy reached out to them for support during the war.
In 2022, Imagine Dragons embraced a significant cause by backing Ukraine’s struggle against the Russian invasion. This effort was prompted after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy personally sought a private meeting with the band, recognising their widespread influence in the conflict-affected nation. Reynolds recalled Zelenskyy’s two key requests: “One, when you’re on tour, remind the people in America not to forget about us. Help us stay in the headlines because we need support,” and “Two, a meaningful way you can assist is through the United 24 initiative,” a government-led campaign aimed at supplying essential ambulances to the war-impacted areas.
9: Breakthrough with their first studio album
Their debut album, “Night Visions,” was the fourth best-selling album in the US in 2013, selling over 1.4 million copies that year. By February 2015, it had reached 2.5 million copies sold in the US, earning double Platinum certification. It was the third best-selling album in Canada, with 179,000 copies sold.
10: They released a deluxe version of “Night Visions” to mark the 10th anniversary.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of “Night Visions,” Imagine Dragons released a super deluxe edition earlier this year, featuring two previously unreleased demos from the album’s recording sessions. Reynolds revealed that their archives contain over 200 other songs from that era they could have chosen to revisit.
He humorously suggested the idea of a “super, super, super deluxe” edition for their 30th anniversary or even a 300-song holographic retrospective for their 50th, a notion McKee eagerly supported.
For their album “Mercury – Act 1”, Imagine Dragons collaborated with legendary producer Rick Rubin. The album focuses on themes of grief, loss, and acceptance, heavily influenced by the pandemic. Lead vocalist Dan Reynolds delivers intense anger on some tracks and profound, soulful depth on others. Throughout the project, he emphasises emotional honesty, presenting a more vulnerable and genuine side of himself than ever before.
