XS NOIZE – UNSIGNED SHOWCASE #8 – INDIGO

At XS Noize, new music is dear to our hearts and we believe that genuinely talented fresh artists deserve a platform to share their material with the world. As such, we will now be showcasing one unsigned act every week, hand picked from submissions by Tom Day for the world to hear. Great news for all you audiophiles out there, but more importantly for those who’s voices deserve to be lifted from the crowd.

In Their Own Words:

Indigo are a young 4 piece band originally from Leigh On Sea in Essex. Coming together with a host of influences that include U2, The Clash, BB king, Catfish and The Bottlemen,The Strokes Elvis Costello, , Muddy Waters, Chuck Berry, Van Morrison, Bruce Springsteen, Jimi hendrix, The black keys, The White Stripes, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Muse

Comparisons of Indigo typically involve songsmiths and performers usually associated with the older musician… Carrying old heads on young dynamic shoulders, Indigo have been crafting intelligent, rocking indie tunes delivered with exciting ferocity and infectious hooks, establishing themselves a reputation for high energy live shows. The band have been plying their wares locally in Southend (backing Glen Matlock, Earl Slick and Slim Jim Phantom at the famous Railway Hotel), and in London, notably playing the Dublin Castle in Camden, The Underbelly in Hoxton and Aces and Eights and Nambucca most recently.

Singer and guitarist Tom Cunningham is the first of a new breed of front men and tells their stories with exuberance and confidence and a dynamism that draws audiences in. Guitarist Dale Holt-Mead and bassist Finlay Cunningham create the band’s grinding and pulsing soundwave, and powerhouse drummer Matt Lamb creates the groove and dynamic drive that the songs are hung on.

Why Tom chose Indigo for the showcase:

I looked at the photo the guys sent me and they’re outward look made me think it was going to be another wannabe rock band chucking out bland, chord driven pop-rock tunes in the time honoured tradition. How wrong I was! As the video for Pins and Needles kicked started I realised how deceiving their look is. Their guitars and bass remind me no end of The Hives but this its mixed with a less ostentatious and more serious vocal. It’s pretty raw and I loved it. Even better, they’re Essex boys like me hailing from Southend-on-Sea! How could I say no to that!
