WHITE LIES announce new single, ‘Trouble In America’ and bonus edition of recent album, As I Try Not To Fall Apart

White Lies have today released a new single, ‘Trouble in America’, a previously unreleased track featured on the forthcoming bonus edition of their last album, As I Try Not To Fall Apart, which is released digitally on [PIAS] on Friday 21st October 2022. The album was originally released in February of this year.

Accompanied by a video directed by the band’s Charles Cave, talking about ‘Trouble In America’ White Lies said:

“We gave up on b-sides years ago, and go into making an album with the sole aim to fit the most cohesive 40mins of music onto two sides of a 12” that we can.
He continues, “Unfortunately that means some music is sidelined at the final hurdle. ‘Trouble In America’ was the hardest song to leave off. It was written a couple of days after ‘Am I Really Going to Die’ and lives in the same world, and energy. Desperation Funk? In this song we jump between the mind of a serial killer, and his good Christian teenage daughter as she realises who…or what her father is and always has been. “My old man’s making trouble in America! Oh, lord, take the weight off me!” she pleads over a cock-rock, Todd Rundgren-esque chorus. We have a history of bonus tracks becoming live favourites, and we’re putting a bitcoin on this horse to keep up tradition.”

The band also recently shared a TCTS remix of album title track ‘As I Try Not To Fall Apart’.

TCTS said:

This was a fun remix to put together. The original is great and I wanted to stay true to it, but with a housey spin. I started by looping a bassline and a vocal chop, some house pianos, and went from there. It’s meant to be uplifting, hopefully that energy comes through!”

The album was recorded at Sleeper Sounds and Assault & Battery studios in West London, and sees long-term collaborator Ed Buller, who has worked on many of their albums including their debut To Lose My Life…, return to produce several tracks along with Claudius Mittendorfer (Weezer, Panic! At The Disco) also producing and mixing the entire record.

Arguably one of the biggest guitar bands in the UK, White Lies last album, Five, garnered much acclaim in 2019 with a SOLD OUT UK tour including multiple Brixton Academy shows.

Having also released Ritual in 2011, BIG TV in 2013 and Friends in 2016, the past decade has seen the band establish themselves globally with sold out tours in Europe and beyond. They recently finished an extensive UK and European tour, which included a sell out show at London’s Hammersmith Apollo, and play their final shows of the year this October.
