Los Angeles-via-Paris indie-pop singer-songwriter Katy Rose unveils the music video, “Run In A Dream,” with assistance from Magic Bronson, aka Matt Lieberman and Michael Nicastro.
A song probing the emotional sensations of the dénouement of a relationship, “Run In A Dream” offers an appetizer from her forthcoming album, I’M YOUR MAN, which delves into the topics of love and transformation.
Rose explains, “Sometimes relationships perish while you’re still deeply nestled within them. Sometimes nothing bad or cataclysmic has to happen for you to become a witness to the end. Sometimes the flame loses oxygen, or two very different people drift apart. Relationships are so hard. There is nothing like being in one to really hold a mirror up to your nonsense. Sometimes we aren’t in a place where we can take that. Sometimes it isn’t even that at all. Sometimes you just weren’t in love, to begin with. Sometimes relationships are a hiding place, a crutch. Sometimes it was the wrong kind of love for that kind of relationship. Sometimes it just isn’t right. The breakups where there are no angry tirades or resentments or huge fights or dramatic Telenovela endings are the most difficult, in my opinion.”
Rose grew up in a musical family. Kim Bullard’s father plays with Elton John and met her mother, Cecelia Bullard, while the two were performing with Véronique Sanson. Rose accompanied her parents on tour, including the Grateful Dead. As soon as she was old enough, Rose began piano and guitar lessons.
At 13, Rose signed with V2 Records, followed by having her music featured in Grey’s Anatomy, One Tree Hill, Dawson’s Creek, Thirteen, Agent Cody Banks, and Mean Girls, where her song “Overdrive” was the title track. After releasing her debut album, Because I Can, she toured with The Cardigans, Liz Phair, and The Calling, followed by sharing the stage with Avril Lavigne, N.E.R.D., and Kanye West.
Since then, she’s worked as a songwriter in LA, Stockholm, Paris, Nashville, ATL, NY, and London, along with songs featured in SIMS 3 and collaborating with 2Cellos. Right now, she is performing in Paris and putting the finishing touches on I’M YOUR MAN.
“Run In A Dream” travels on a potent, throbbing rhythm as Rose’s deluxe voice rides overhead, imbuing the lyrics with nostalgic, aching textures. A cavernous bassline and finessed percussion give the tune weighty resonance while swirling layers of translucent pop colours intertwine lusciously.
