VIDEO PREMIERE: Glasgow legend Ewan MacFarlane's euphoric 'Underneath Your Spell'

Today Scottish artist Ewan MacFarlane releases one of the best new songs we’ve heard in a long while, ‘Underneath Your Spell’.

The track is MacFarlane’s second solo single from his debut solo album ‘Always Everlong’, due out in October, but readers may be familiar with MacFarlane’s work previously as frontman for cult alternative band The Grim Northern Social and also from his stint fronting British electronic-maestros Apollo 440.

‘Underneath Your Spell’ however goes in a direction perhaps unlike anything MacFarlane has done before, sounding like classic Bowie, Petty, and Springsteen with an Americana core. It’s impossible not to love this perfectly written classic rock belter that tugs on the heartstrings with glorious nostalgia and excites with true rock ‘n’ roll grit at the same time.

On the track’s themes, MacFarlane says, “It’s both about a lust and love for life and for each other. It’s about endless boundaries, about taking the good with the bad, the happy with the sad, the laughter and the tears, but not least it’s about kicking down the walls of constraint and living life exactly how you choose. Free to be what you want to be without judgement.”

The track brilliantly expresses the euphoria that love brings being captured underneath your lover’s spell. If all the tracks on the album are as exhilarating as this, and the previous single ‘Stirrin’ In The City’ certainly is, then surely we have a brand new candidate for the album of the year!
