VIDEO PREMIERE: Ghosts of Our Former Selves - If That’s Love

The multi-talented and prolific London band Ghosts of Our Former Selves return this September with one of their most authentically soulful releases to date. The new single ‘If That’s Love’ showcases the band’s love for the soul and gospel music of the ’60s and ’70s combined with a painstaking approach to the song’s production. The latest track from a forthcoming EP, it’s a laid-back groove full of emotive songwriting and retro atmospherics. XS Noize is pleased to premiere the video today.

‘If That’s Love’ is a precursor to a stunning new album in the same vein, full of soulful gems from an act dedicated to their craft. Lead singer Theo was so determined to get the right sound for the vocal that, on a recent trip to Los Angeles, he booked into a studio there specifically to use a vintage mic to get the sound he wanted. On ‘If That’s Love’, the band’s songwriting talent is exposed in a stripped-back, guitar & vocal-led arrangement, with gospel elements and vocal harmonies introduced throughout. Speaking on the new single, lead singer Theo states:

If That’s Love is a song about time running out in a relationship. All the deals you try to make, all the promises, the doubts. It was written at a turning point with someone when you are hanging on by your fingertips saying, the most valuable thing I have is my time and I’m here, giving it to you.
