VIDEO PREMIERE: Anna Krantz Explores the Hypocrisy Behind the Government's Treatment of Musicians with ‘Unacceptable’

“Where Would You Be Without Art & Music” It’s a question asked regularly by the UK & Ireland’s creative and musician community over the past year, through one of the most challenging periods for the music industry in recent memory. In her new single ‘Unacceptable’, Dublin-based songwriter Anna Krantz looks to expose the hypocrisy and inconsistencies in the government’s condemnation of a musician as a non-viable role.

XS Noize is pleased to exclusively premiere the video today!

Inspired by a phone call to a car insurance company, the new single ‘Unacceptable’ is a manifestation of an issue that all musicians and creatives will have experienced. Speaking on the story behind the song, Anna states:

“I was trying to get car insurance in Ireland, having just moved here, but struggled due to my occupation. One company told me “A musician is an unacceptable occupation.” As was songwriter, artist, performer and a list of other creative titles I threw at them. Eventually, I was placed on hold… to music! The hypocrisy hit a nerve, and it’s exactly the same hypocrisy at play in the way the UK & Irish government have neglected musicians in this pandemic.“

For Anna, as a working musical performer and songwriter. The “Rethink, Reskill, Reboot” campaign, which aimed to convince artists to re-train in a soulless occupation ignoring their passions, struck a jarring and bleak chord. As a songwriter Anna boasts two cuts on Ed Sheeran’s ‘Loose Change’ EP, leading to a number of slots opening for him on his NYC tour. She’s also written for Geri Halliwell and Cliff Richard, before moving to Nashville where she expanded her repertoire working alongside Maren Morris, Natalie Hemby and Mickey Guyton. She’s also performed on broadcasting legend Bob Harris’ radio show as well as securing a BBC Radio 2 Playlist.

Written over a zoom call alongside Gráinne Hunt, the stripped-back new single showcases Anna’s raw songwriting ability. Beautifully simplistic in its delivery, it’s a track rich with emotion and anguish throughout, with a contrasted uplifting chord progression.
