After a promising start to 2020, playing packed shows in London venues such as Brixton Jamm and Gigi’s Hoxton, as well as Bournemouth’s famous Sixty Million Postcards, to then almost radio silence due to the pandemic, The Strangers Club are back alive and kicking, starting the new year with their most ambitious release to date, ‘Suede’.
After meeting at University in 2018, George Aquilla Hardy (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Harry Millward (Drums), Rich Barnes (Bass), and Lee Chadwick (Lead Guitar) became known on the south-coast scene for their energetic live performances and fuzzy, bluesy, alternative rock sound. Now they’re back with something totally different.
‘Suede’ is far from what the boys are used to offering, being a new direction into a more groovy, indie, danceable territory, largely influenced by Tame Impala, MGMT and Arcade Fire. ‘Suede’ is the perfect tune to kick off a new year where hope is in sight. “So smooth I could use a little you right now” are the lyrics repeated throughout the chorus, fitting perfectly for 2021; a year out of the trenches where we can all get back in touch and dance together. Synthy snares and pulsating bass lay the groundwork for the track, with the melodic and vibey overlaying lead guitar riff reminiscent of better days packed in a field listening to tunes with your best mates.
