Today XS Noize is pleased to premiere ‘Dust’ from Shallow Waves. It was in late 2017, Toronto’s Shallow Waves started to move away from its alternative/60s garage rock origins to refocus towards their current sonic identity. Taking a cue from known contemporary bands (Wand, Flying Colours, The Black Angels), as well as, Toronto’s local psychedelic scene, marked Shallow Waves’ transition into a heavier shoegaze influenced psychedelic direction.
This change also provided a different shift in the band’s writing process, with all four members contributing, whereas previously, songs were predominantly written by founder Zaid Khan. Now in 2019, Shallow Waves are releasing a mini-album “ Parallel States of Consciousness” with a follow up single to the well-received “Shapes” called “Dust”, showcasing their new output. The album and single itself was recorded in several studios within Toronto including Taurus Recordings (Metz, Sheepdogs, Fucked Up). Aiming for an August 16th ( Dust) and September 13th ( Parallel States of Consciousness) release respectively, on a majority of online platforms. Shallow Waves is very excited in sharing their new sound.
“Dust” is an exciting follow up single to “Shapes” off the mini-album “Parallel States of Consciousness” for Shallow Waves, showing the band’s evolution into a much more psychedelic influenced direction. “Dust” picks up where “ Shapes” left off, introducing the newer elements of what we expect to showcase from the album.” – Zaid Khan
