TRACK PREMIERE: Rory & The Island - When The Lights Go Down (Valhalla)

Irish singer-songwriter Rory & The Island introduces new single When The Lights Go Down (Valhalla). 2020 has been a rough year on a lot of us, but none more so than Rory Gallagher the artist behind Rory & The Island.

In Jan 2020 he took a chance and moved with his wife and 2 kids from Donegal in Ireland to Edinburgh in Scotland to open a brand new live music bar called “The Wildcat”, The official opening date was set for March 21st 2020. Due to the global pandemic outbreak it never opened, Rory and his wife Cara lost their investment and handed back the keys. Like most stunned musicians relying on live show income, Rory took to Facebook and started hosting weekly shows, surviving on virtual tip-jars the whole way through the year he even managed to break a world record by becoming the first solo artist to fill the entire 8-hour time slot given by Facebook live.

The reaction from these weekly shows took Rory by surprise with the number of people tuning in, his average Saturday online gig is now reaching over 40,000 people.

“I wrote the song about the horrible feeling of turning off the lights in the music bar which I had great hopes and dreams for, for the last time, looking around, and closing the door”

Prior to the madness of 2020, Rory was extensively touring the UK and Ireland filling out small rooms around the country, notably selling out his London show at Dublin Castle within 48 hours of going on sale. Two albums later Rory has independently earned himself 8 top 30s, 2 top 10s in the Irish charts. As well as supporting the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Feeder and Alabama 3.
