‘Nothing can kill me but myself’, a lyric that rebels against the fear-riddled, toxic times we currently live in. Following on from their recent single ‘Last Call’, the Nordic bubble punk outfit Lazy Queen returns for ‘Bid Geal’, their first release of the new year. Through wonky rhythms and radical tempo changes, it’s a track that showcases an element of fun that the Nordic outfit have always been keen to engender in their music.

‘Bid Geal’ is the third single taken from Lazy Queen’s forthcoming EP ‘Get Home Or Die Trying’, to be released April 23rd, 2021. Lead singer Henrik (pronouns they/them) narrates regret-filled nights out that blur into one, pondering how to digest the painful memories created after nightfall. Inspired by struggles with mental health and addiction, Lazy Queen balance vulnerability with blistering anger and hurt, alternating seamlessly between thrashing guitars and softly sung laments.

Lazy Queen’s musical output tells a story of recovery and rebirth, contributing to the effort to lessen the stigma surrounding mental health struggles caused by addiction. Music has always been a balm for the band members, and they began playing together between New York and Oslo. They quickly built up a loyal fanbase in the Nordic live scene with their raucous performances fizzing with anger and livewire energy.

Since beginning to record and release their own music, Lazy Queen have found critical acclaim in outlets like Wonderland Magazine, NYLON, Red Bull Music, Earmilk, Indietronica (Hype Machine), Louder Than War, Impose Magazine and Medium for their singles ‘Throwaway’, ‘Sober’, ‘Last Call’ and ‘Gutted’. Their releases have also been featured in Apple Music’s New Music Daily’ playlist alongside global support from Tidal and Spotify.

On ‘Bid Geal’, the Nordic outfit seamlessly ebb and flow between truncated verses with moody, hostile lyrics, to unhinged power chords with an immaculate energy. Speaking on the new single, Henrik states:

“Bid Geal is about someone who’s seemingly very proud of how fucked up they are. It’s a frame of mind full of self-deception, gleeful ignorance and hard-headed stubbornness. The song’s got that “fuck you, fuck me, fuck everybody” attitude, so we really pursued that in all aspects of the writing, giving way to our more exuberant and sporadic impulses. It’s our take on slapstick comedy in the form of a song.”
