TRACK PREMIERE: MATT MILLARD Returns with Beautiful New Single ‘OMA’

Following press and radio support for his debut Take Me Anywhere EP last year, Birmingham indie-folk artist Matt Millard is back today with a stunning new single. Oma delivers a textured, cinematic soundscape alongside Matt’s yearning vocal and combines the electronic and organic to beautiful effect.

“I recently took some time out from life in the UK and went travelling,” explains Millard on the new single. “‘ Oma’ is a song I started to write during the end of that time away when driving four thousand kilometres down the east coast of Australia. The track title comes from Cyclone Oma, which was a huge storm that battered the coast for most of the journey. It’s essentially a love song with a somewhat reflective narrative.

I had spent a month in this rusty van driving down the coast escaping awful weather, but despite all that, there was this moment of realisation – that I was having the time of my life and there was no place I’d rather be than in that crappy old van with my girlfriend.”

After early support from BBC Introducing and live shows with Fenne Lilly and Allman Brown, Millard arrived fully formed in 2018 with his debut set of songs and EP. A talented producer as well as a multi-instrumentalist, he closed out the year with the surprise online release of Featherlight – a single exploring a new direction with a full band production.

Since then Matt has taken time out from his solo work by spending six months travelling across South East Asia and Australia, returning home inspired and energised by his experiences abroad. With new projects in the works, there’s definitely still more to come from the 27-year-old singer-songwriter.
