TRACK PREMIERE: Bailey Flores – Kiss Me More

New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Bailey Flores introduces “Kiss Me More,” a stripped-down, elegant cover of Doja Cat’s vogueish song.

A self-confessed “emo kid,” last year Bailey released two singles, “Grave Dancer” and “Savory,” highlighting her delicious alt-pop sound and captivating vocals. The founder and director of Bailey Flores Entertainment, LLC, she delivers creative, professional songwriting, as well as collaborating with KC Da Producer, who produced Justin Bieber’s “There She Go.”

Influenced early on by singing gospel music in church, she developed her vocal chops singing along with pop artists in her bedroom, followed by writing her own songs and recording. She dropped a snippet of “Kiss Me More” via TikTok, resulting in more than 80,000 views and 20,000 likes almost overnight.

With two new songs in the pipeline for release this year, along with an EP entitled IWANNASEEYOUNAKED, Bailey is a tour de force of exciting, galvanising music and posh fashion-forward style.

Opening on a quixotic piano, “Kiss Me More” flows forth on graceful textures as Bailey’s voluptuous voice imbues the lyrics with searing passion. The gentle undulation of the piano emphasises Bailey’s evocative timbres as she narrates her aching desire.

XS Noize spoke with Baily Flores to discover her motivation for covering “Kiss Me More,” how she got started in music, and what informs her lush sound.

Why did you decide to cover Doja Cat’s “Kiss Me More?”

First off, I love Doja Cat. When I heard “Kiss Me More” for the first time, I thought it was a super fun and sexy song. I figured it would be cool to tap more into the intimate side of the song vocally and with the solo piano arrangement for a TikTok. After I posted the TikTok snippet, hundreds of people asked me to drop a full cover, so here we are.

How did you get started in music?

I started singing in church like most vocalists in New Orleans. After my Jesus phase, I would sing in the clubs on Frenchmen Street, sitting in with new friends and their bands. Once I started booking my gigs, I began writing more originals and testing them out now and then since we mainly played cover songs for the drunken masses. That got old pretty quick, so I decided it was time to start recording my songs and taking my music career more seriously.

Has your sound had a deliberate direction or did it simply gradually evolve in whatever direction it found?

My sound has evolved over the years as it should. My songwriting and vocal performance have grown with me as a person and an artist. Today, I’ll admit my sound is very calculated, but I found my sweet spot for now. It’ll change one day again.

Which musicians/singers influenced your sound?

P!nk and Hayley Williams from Paramore are my leading ladies. I’ve mimicked their edginess and powerhouse vocals since I was a kiddo, and I still do.

Which artists, in your opinion, are killing it right now?

Doja Cat. BTS. Also, I just discovered Olivia Rodrigo this year on TikTok, and she’s phenomenal.

Any advice for young female artists just getting started?

Be yourself. Be consistent. Be venerable. Be brave. Your ideas aren’t stupid.

What can we expect from you within the next six months? Any releases planned? Future gigs?

I’ll be releasing two more singles this year, “MILKSHAKE” and “Notice Me.” I’m currently finishing up my debut EP titled “IWANNASEEYOUNAKED”, which should be out early next year. I’m hoping to play some festivals or hop on tour as an opener for a bigger artist or band now that live music is back in action.
