TRACK OF THE DAY : SOUTHERN - 'Lone Driver'

Southern have unveiled the video for their new single ‘Lone Driver’. Released on 11th May via Marathon Artists, ‘Lone Driver’ is a bass-driven, thumping four minutes of soaring harmonized indie rock and is lifted from the Belfast duo’s as yet untitled debut album, due for release in the Summer.

Written and fronted by Thom Southern, ‘Lone Driver’ draws on a tale of exclusion and separation. It’s a song with plenty of heart and soul, delivered with a passion that Southern are quickly becoming renowned for. The track is produced by Mark Rankin (Queens Of The Stone Age, Bombay Bicycle Club) who is also working on the album with the band.

Raised and still living in Belfast, via stints in both Liverpool and London, the siblings share the songwriting duties between them, and beefed by their band, there’s a clear obvious dynamic to how Southern write their music.

Still comparatively fresh to their careers, last year the band spent almost the full 12 months out on the road, touring with the likes of Bastille and Jake Bugg, packing out the tent for their revered set at 2014’s Reading Festival, and recently concluded both headline dates and support slots across the UK with Hudson Taylor.

‘Lone Driver’ now acts as the perfect first introduction proper to the debut album. Southern have spent almost 18 months perfecting their craft – Now it’s time for lift off.
