TRACK OF THE DAY: CLIFF LOTHAR – THE SNOW IS FALLING

TRACK OF THE DAY: CLIFF LOTHAR – THE SNOW IS FALLING

In early 2013, Cliff Lothar seemingly appeared out of thin air with the ‘White Savage’ EP, released on legendary Dutch label Viewlexx. It was a unique sounding release, which quickly gained widespread support. White Savage has been charted by people as diverse as John Talabot, Delta Funktionen and Thom Yorke of Radiohead.

A couple of months after White Savage, the follow up EP was released on the Swedish techno label Skudge White., it was described by Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir as ‘..a sinister ep. dark and funky’, and Claude Young wrote ‘Tangaxuan II is truly a master work, its melodic yet millsian at the same time’. More recently, a collaboration with the ubiquitous Legowelt under the name Pagan Sector resulted in the rave-techno-deephouse hybrid EP called “Hermopolis Magna”, released on Amsterdam upstart Knekelhuis.

There is also remixes for M>O>S, Pinkman and Turbo Recordings besides releases on Hivern Discs & Midlight in the pipeline.

Despite staying fairly anonymous so far, Cliff is certainly no attic creature – having played venues such as Panorama Bar, Have a Nice Day, NuMusic and Batofar, to undercover spots like Bargain, Humboldthain and Intergalactic FM Festival

The Snow Is Falling is taken from the new EP Old Jams Die Hard #1, which is a bunch of misfit old jams and throwaways that refused to die and finally congregated into this thing. “Tugeda” is some sort of rave ordeal that’s been laying around the ESX-1 for ages, popping up in live sets here and there. “Don’t need nobody”, don’t even get me started on that one… “Going dutch” was basically an aggressive SE-1 demo that some Smackos got their hands on and started playing out, and “The snow is falling” is a 10 years old 707/101/dx7 tape jam (the cassette kind). That’s about it, take care !
