Today THE ELEPHANT TREES unveil new single, ‘Idiot’ - Listen Now

To say The Elephant Trees have had a busy summer would be an understatement. From playing an intimate acoustic showcase at Liverpool Sound City to opening the Hard Rock Stage at the Isle Of Wight, they’ve left no stone unturned on the festival circuit and now they’re ready to unleash the next part of their story. Earlier this year they released ‘4100,’ an undeniably slick pop record with a clear statement of intent that turned heads all over the industry. Exercising their studio muscle and exploring their versatility, Martha Phillips and Sam Hugh-Jones have been gearing up to release new music for a while, and it was worth the wait. Fierce, outspoken and overflowing with attitude, ‘Idiot’ is set for release on the 9th August.

With an uncontrollable bounce from the get-go, it’ll be hard not to jump around at the Depressed Kids Disco Parties when this one kicks in. Your hosts, Martha and Sam provide multiple tempo changes, build-ups and drops for maximum impact on every single beat. Blending infectious rhymes that flow effortlessly with the groove, with synths, brass and an indie-pop feel throughout, it feels like ‘Idiot’ is an accumulation of The Elephant Trees’ entire discography. On writing the track, Martha Phillips added:

“You know that feeling of chaos that comes with falling in love, that out of control, hurtling towards the sudden panic of opening yourself up to vulnerability? Somewhere in that confusion stemmed ‘Idiot.’ You can tell yourself 100 times not to be such an idiot, but who are you to stand in the way of your own happiness? ‘Idiot’ is the first in a series we’ve been working on for a while and I’m excited to let everyone into our party.”

Listen to ‘Idiot’ – BELOW:

This is the start of something huge from the band that were able to “Stop Edith Bowman in her tracks.” ‘Idiot’ marks the beginning of an imminently bigger release, their debut EP: ‘Monachopsis’ (mon-a-cop-sis). They also have a November headline tour across the UK, with more shows TBA shortly:

Sat 16/11/19 – Manchester – Deaf Institute
Thu 21/11/19 – London – The Monarch
Fri 22/11/19 – Nottingham – Chapel
Fri 29/11/19 – Leeds – Belgrave

Although The Elephant Trees were born in Guiseley (the name was created by a silhouette of trees that looked like Elephants), they transmit a global message of solidarity through their association with the queer community and the desire to explore the world’s complexities in a safe place. The Depressed Kids Disco Party tour gives people the chance to not only see one of the most explosive, gnarly live shows around, but also to feel safe in an environment of togetherness. Martha and Sam stand up for something bigger than just the music – it doesn’t matter what your sexuality is or what mental health demons you’re battling, a gig with The Elephant Trees is a community of fellow fans that are struggling with the pressures of life, and you’re all welcome!

It’s their drive, downright likeability and unquestionably catchy music that has resulted in being finalists at Fender’s Unsigned Artist of the Year event, playing alongside the likes of Bang Bang Romeo, Orchards and Larkins, and being heavily supported by Radio X, Gaydio and BBC Introducing. Now they’re about to embark on the biggest and most ambitious stages of their career so far, and they want every single one of you to join them – who’s in?
