THE TWILIGHT SAD share new video for ‘Shooting Dennis Hopper Shooting’ + Announce New Live Dates

THE TWILIGHT SAD share video for current single 'VTr', taken from new album IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME

Today The Twilight Sad announce two new live dates as well as sharing a new video for Shooting Dennis Hopper Shooting. The band released the album, IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME, in January to critical acclaim. They will perform their biggest ever U.K. headline show to date at The Forum in London on November 23rd. They will also play a night at Ritz in Manchester on November 24th.

Speaking of the video, band member and co-director Brendan Jay Smith offered the following:

I found an old leather bag at the back of my Grandfather’s cupboard with a collection of super 8 film reels from the late 60’s. When I thought about connecting this with the glitched layers from DLT’s album artwork it felt like we could continue the records themes of distorted and fractured memories, whilst combining old and new formats and blurring the lines between these mediums. Filming in an old abandoned swimming pool from the 1920’s gave us an opportunity to reflect on past memories, drawing from my Grandfathers original footage but projecting them in the present in an altered state, by using contemporary methods.”

Co-director Cameron Gleave added:

To add depth to the 2D animation, the processed Super 8 was then projected in Govanhill Baths in the Southside of Glasgow. The way the light interacted with elements of the architecture; casting shadows, reflecting off surfaces and revealing the texture of the building beneath added another layer of organic distortion. When cut into the final edit this combination of animation, super 8 and real-life footage gave a feeling of disorientation and blurred the lines of reality.”

IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME was released in January to critical acclaim and commercial success, marking a new high in the much-loved Scottish band’s trajectory to date. A first Top 20 album for the band, it peaked at number 17 in the Official Albums Chart while coming in at number 1 in the Vinyl Chart. Press was just as exclamatory about the record with rave reviews coming in from the likes of The GuardianNMEQ, The Independent IDrowned in SoundClashDIYLoud and Quiet, XS Noize and more.

More about Shooting Dennis Hopper Shooting from the band:

“This was in the first batch of songs we wrote for the album. I’ve been mildly obsessed with the way that we treat the people closest to us, be it a friend, a lover, a family member. We sometimes seem to push the people closest to us furthest away. We also sometimes treat them the worst because it’s the easiest thing to do. This song is an example of that. When it comes to an ex-partner and the ways that relationships end, how horrible we can be to someone we once cared so much for or even once loved fascinates me whilst it also makes me very sad.” – James Alexander Graham

Regarding the feel/performance and sound, this song gave the album a starting point to work from. I like the simplicity of it. In my head, it’s similar to a Mission of Burma or a Pixies song, which makes it good to play live. When I’m naming songs, it’s normally just to send instrumentals to James, then we’ll try and change it to something more appropriate when the lyrics are finished, but this title stayed the same. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have anything to do with Dennis Hopper. I needed a title and I think it was an advert for a Dennis Hopper documentary I had open on my computer with Shooting Dennis Hopper Shooting as the headline, so it’s more circumstantial why it’s called that.” – Andy MacFarlane
