THE NATIONAL: Release Unheard Track to "Mistaken For Strangers" Viewers - Listen

Earlier today, The National announced that viewers who rent or buy their critically acclaimed documentary film “Mistaken For Strangers” via the digital distributor VHX, will receive a free download of the never before released song “Sunshine on My Back”. The track features the vocals of Sharon Van Etten and was recorded in 2012 at the same time as their sixth album, GRAMMY nominated Trouble Will Find Me. “Sunshine on My Back” will also be made available for purchase and through streaming outlets.

“Mistaken For Strangers” is the hilarious and touching portrait of two brothers, Matt and Tom Berninger, set to the backdrop of The National’s High Violet world tour. The documentary was chosen to premiere on the opening night of the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival followed by a theatrical release in the US and worldwide distribution.

The National has released six studio albums including The National and Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers. In 2004 they signed to 4AD releasing the critically acclaimed Alligator which features breakout anthem “Mr. November.” The album led the band to tour worldwide developing a passionate international fan base. Boxer reached an even wider audience with songs like “Fake Empire” which went on to be used in the 2008 Obama Presidential Campaign.

“Mistaken For Strangers” is the hilarious and touching documentary the paints portrait of two brothers, Matt and Tom Berninger, set to the backdrop of the juggernaut of the band’s 2010 release High Violet, an album that sold over 600,000 copies. The documentary was chosen to premiere on the opening night of the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival followed by a theatrical release in the US and worldwide distribution.Their most recent release Trouble Will Find Me debuted at #3 on Billboard’ s Top 200, marking their largest first week of sales to date.

The success of Trouble Will Find Me reached new audiences through appearances on Saturday Night Live, The Colbert Report, All Things Considered, The Mindy Project, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, CBS This Morning, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Late Show with David Letterman, Conan and more.
