Fresh Liverpool four-piece – THE JJOHNS – are delighted to unveil their debut single release for the Modern Sky UK label: “Sewn”.

Inspired by a Fleetwood Mac listening binge while the band were out on a tour of the Netherlands last year, “Sewn” balances irresistible harmonies and vocal hooks with a clattering restlessness that truly captures the energy of their rabid live shows.

Speaking about the track, frontman Dom Dunning says:

“Writing “Sewn” was motivated by our band’s trip to Eindhoven last year, we had the Fleetwood Mac greatest hits on loop and a song that Mik [Dom’s brother & guitarist] showed me instantly hit me, I felt great… I always write in the notion of trying to create my own version of a particular song or melody and that was the case with “Sewn”. We got home from the trip and straight away me and Mik picked up the guitars and the magic happened. I always had the hook lines “you got me bad, got me Sewn girl” for a while and managed to fit it into the end of that song.”

With a sound lovingly true to their Merseyside roots, THE JJOHNS have drawn early comparisons with the likes of The LA’s, The Beatles and The Coral; though on this startling debut, fans of R.E.M.’s earlier days may even detect a knowing lyrical wink to one of the classic IRS years singles in the closing bars… listen up! Recorded locally at the legendary Sugarhouse in St Helens, “Sewn” was produced in-house by the very capable Ady Hall and Lee McCarthy.

THE JJOHNS are the latest signing of Modern Sky UK, the exceptional new label that introduced the world to THE BLINDERS, CATHOLIC ACTION, THE SLOW READERS CLUB and many more.

THE JJOHNS make the kind of irresistibly catchy and timelessly melodic guitar pop with an alluring hint of the chaotic, as only the way those with Merseyside blood coursing through their veins can. Comprising the three Dunning brothers in Dom on lead vocals and guitar, Mik on backing vocals and guitar, and Bernie on bass, as well as, their friend Sam Burkett on drums, this sharp Scouse quartet very much have the heartbeat of the current Liverpool scene rippling through their sound.

Taking up support slots with the likes of Circa Waves, Trampolene, Paris Youth Foundation and Jordan Allen, the band have earned themselves something of a fierce reputation for the fantastic and the unpredictable on the live circuit, making the kind of noise that neither journalists (or labels for that matter) can ignore for long. With Get Into This hailing that “The Jjohns always play a brilliant set” and The Pentatonic remarking that “The Dunnings are one drunken onstage barney away from being iconic”, it’s perhaps no surprise then that band have already been picking up early comparisons to greats the likes of The La’s, The Beatles and Oasis across the blogosphere.

Following their head-turning festival debut at Liverpool Sound City this year, THE JJOHNS landed a deal with Modern Sky UK. With the wind of their recent signing behind their sails, the band are now primed and poised for a bright summer of festival appearances (including a set at this Y-Not Festival 2018), plus a headline show to look forward to at Manchester’s premier indie establishment Jimmy’s this September.
