THE CRIBS share video for ‘Swinging At Shadows’ - the first release of their ‘Sonic Blew Singles Club’

The Cribs, who released their eighth album Night Network to universal acclaim in November 2020 have today shared the video to Swinging At Shadows. The track is the first to be released as part of their ‘Sonic Blew Singles Club’ which will run monthly until the end of the year.

The DIY video was shot at the band’s recent storming live return at the South Facing Festival in Crystal Palace Park.

Talking about the video, Gary from the band said:

Due to all the legal wrangling over our masters, and then the pandemic shutdown, we had not played a live show in 3 years…plus, people have been starved of festivals for so long too, so it seemed like a good opportunity to make our first live music video. Crystal Palace Park is a historic venue – we had seen some photos of it from back in the ’70s and it just looked so rad – so we really wanted to capture the performance on film. Over the years we have shot a lot of behind the scenes stuff on Super 8, so the whole thing was really easy and fun – all-natural, no self-consciousness or anything. Plus, I got a free ice cream out of it – which was nice.

Fans who subscribe to the singles club will receive four 2-track 7”s (also available on DSPs) between September and December. Subscriptions will be limited, and available while stocks last.

The 7” releases will feature previously unheard songs from the ‘Night Network’ album sessions (recorded at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606) on the A-side, paired with home recordings undertaken during the lockdown on the B-side. Subscribers will receive all future singles ahead of them being made available on DSP’s.

The A-side of the first 7” Swinging At Shadows is available on all DSPs now and the 7”, featuring the B-side Taken To Tualatinwill be available from September 24th. Details of the following three singles club releases will be revealed subsequently. Taken To Tualatin features former Sleater-Kinney and current Quasi drummer Janet Weiss on backing vocals and harmonies, with Gary saying about the song:

Taken To Tualatin was written during the dark days of the first lockdown, whilst the Oregon wildfires were raging and blocking out the sun. It’s one of the most personal songs I have ever written. Janet Weiss joined me on backing vocals – it’s an honour to have her involved – not only is Janet one of my closest friends, she also has one of my favourite singing voices in the world and writes amazing harmonies.
