The Best Seven Poker Songs Ever

The Best Seven Poker Songs Ever

Poker has always been a favourite casino game for many people. Even those that don’t frequent brick-and-mortar, or online casinos, enjoy playing poker at home. So it’s no wonder that there have been so many successful songs written about this exciting game.

If you’re interested in learning more about poker and practising your skills with online casinos in Hungary, take a look at kaszinok.online to find some of the best poker games.

Kevin Cochran found the seven best poker songs of all time. You can put these songs on your playlist for your next game night to listen to some music history while playing the game in question.

Some of these songs never topped the charts but are iconic poker songs nonetheless. But, of course, a song doesn’t have to be a chart-topper to be considered a classic.

1. Kenny Rogers— The Gambler

This song allegedly came to Kenny in a dream. It’s about two men meeting on a train and giving the other a few solid poker tips. The song can also be interpreted as advice on how to live your life. Either way, it’s a good song, reaching number one on the U.S. Billboard Chart for Country Music.

Best Lyric

“You never count your money

When you’re sittin’ at the table

There’ll be time enough for countin’

When the dealin’s done”

2. Elvis Presley— Viva Las Vegas

No list of casino songs would be complete without a mention of the King himself, Elvis Presley. Elvis is almost synonymous with Vegas and performed in this city many times. His hit song Viva Las Vegas has been covered many times and can be called an icon in music. The song was written for the movie with the same name, where Elvis was to play Lucky Johnson. Unfortunately, the song never performed exceptionally well on the charts, and Elvis never performed it live. It has become a hit song over the years, however.

Best Lyric

“I’m gonna give it ev’rything I’ve got

Lady luck, please let the dice stay hot

Let me shoot a seven with ev’ry shot.”

3. Frank Sinatra— Luck Be a Lady

Sung by both Frank Sinatra and Marlon Brando, Luck Be a Lady is about the concept of a lady bringing luck to casino games. The song was also covered by various other artists, including Barbara Streisand. This is an iconic song, like most of Frank Sinatra’s hits.

Best Lyric

“A lady wouldn’t make little snake eyes at me

When I’ve got my life on this roll.”

4. Sting— Shape of My Heart

Sting described this song as a gambler playing to find a mystical truth about luck instead of gambling to win money. The song is good, even though it mixes up some game references. Unfortunately, it never became a hit but is one of those songs that became popular long after its release. Sting isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but those who enjoy his music will definitely love this song.

Best Lyric

“I know that the spades are the swords of a soldier

I know that the clubs are weapons of war

I know that diamonds mean money for this art

But that’s not the shape of my heart.”

5. Lady Gaga— Poker Face

Only her second single, Poker Face became a smash hit. The song was a chart-topper in more than 20 countries, including the U.S. and was critically acclaimed. The song is a tribute to bisexuality and uses many poker references. In addition, she allegedly wrote the song as a tribute to her rock boyfriends.

Best Lyric

“I wanna hold ’em like they do in Texas, please

Fold ’em, let ’em hit me, raise it, baby, stay with me.”

6. AC/DC— The Jack

AC/DC has always been a controversial band, and this song didn’t help their reputation. It’s allegedly about dealing with a venereal disease, which is quite apparent if you listen to the lyrics. Unfortunately, the song wasn’t a hit like later releases from this band. Regardless, it sports some good lyrics and is an enjoyable song.

Best Lyric

“She was holdin’ a pair

But I had to try,

Her deuce was wild

But my ace was high.”

7. Clint Black— A Good Run With Bad Luck

The song is about being lucky at the poker table and getting lucky with a special lady. It was written and released on the soundtrack for Maverick, the 1994 movie starring Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster. The song topped the country music charts in both Canada and the U.S.

Best Lyric

“If I’m bettin’ on a loser, I’m gonna have a devil to pay

But it’s the only game I know to play, it doesn’t matter anyway.”

Final Thoughts

There are some more legendary songs about poker that didn’t make it on this list. Being such a classic casino game, one can expect many pieces trying to capture the excitement of winnings and the disappointment of losing. If you feel inspired to try your hand at winning this classic game, sign up with one of the best online casinos and start practising your skills and poker face. An online casino is a great place to play poker, so give it a try.
