The Anchoress will play 15 live dates at some of the UK’s finest concert halls (opening for Simple Minds on their acoustic tour) as well as supporting the Manic Street Preachers at a huge outdoor show in Bristol Harbourside on June 22nd, and headlining Chester Live on June 23rd at the city-wide multi venue festival.

The new video for ‘What Goes Around’ (directed by Annick Wolfers) sees Catherine subjected to a series of increasingly unfortunate incidents as the song progresses through a revolving onslaught of surreal and comical off-screen attacks involving blood, neon paint and chocolate cake… Of the track ‘What Goes Around’, Catherine says:

“I wanted the song to have three choruses, in homage to ABBA’s songwriting ethos but then decided to throw in a time signature change for the Middle 8 to sabotage any notion that it could be a pop song about Newton’s third law! It kind of became a template for the idea of “revenge pop” that came to the fore as the central concept of the album.”

Her debut album, Confessions of A Romance Novelist, was released last year to widespread critical acclaim and named amongst the Guardian critics’ Albums of the Year, won HMV’s Welsh Album of the Year, Best Newcomer at the PROG awards, and pick up a nomination for the Welsh Music Prize.

The genre-hopping, expansive production of the album draws on influences as far and wide as Prince, Tori Amos, Roxy Music, The Carpenters, and David Bowie. Mojo described Davies as being in possession of “a devastatingly powerful voice”. The Observer called it “a blackly witty break up album…compelling”, while PROG magazine described the record as “Kate Bush’s Hounds Of Love updated for the 21st century”.

The Anchoress will be opening for the UK leg of the Simple Minds Acoustic Tour in May/June 2017, with a stripped-down version of her album and performs with a full band at the Bristol and Chester shows.
