Today, Brighton’s Tall Ships present the video for ‘Petrichor’, the latest single from their much anticipated second album Impressions, arriving March 31st via FatCat Records.
‘Petrichor’ serves as one of Impressions’ greatest peaks, a hands-raised-aloft anthem preaching openness and dialogue – valuable commodities in the 2017 we’ve seen so far. Speaking of the track, frontman Ric Phethean says, “it started as a collection of one-liners trying to distill the sense of detachment I was feeling at the time of writing. Whilst working on the song, I came across the word petrichor, which describes the scent you get after a downpour during a long dry spell. This felt like a pretty apt word to describe the song and that feeling of relief that comes with externalising and talking about all the problems we carry around within us.”
The track comes accompanied by a brand new video, directed by Ben Phethean. The clip, which Phethean describes as “an exploration of anxiety and depression,” perfectly captures the daily trials of a young man struggling to cope with his internal dialogue. Phethean continues, “it follows a day in the life of a young man struggling to cope with his internal dialogue. The whole video was filmed using a body-mounted camera rig to give the audience an intimate relationship with the actor and his journey. Like the video for Meditations On Loss, the video for Petrichor was a creative collaboration by family and friends of Tall Ships. It uses the same actor, incorporates similar themes and works in unison with it’s counterpart.”
