SPECTOR ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE 'ALL THE SAD YOUNG MEN' - Listen

Spector make an auspicious return when they release their epic new single ‘All The Sad Young Men’ February 4th on Fiction. Smart and emotionally literate, it’s great to have them back. After eighteen months cocooned in the studio, Spector have emerged as a completely new band. Where their Top 20 debut ‘Enjoy It While It Lasts’ was a precocious blast of stadium-inspired indie rock, their new music is something else entirely and has a depth to match. ‘All The Sad Young Men’ sets the tone and promises big things for the forthcoming new album.

Written by Fred Macpherson and Jed Cullen and produced by the band with Duncan Mills (The Vaccines, Peace, Malcolm McLaren), the single pulls no punches – expansive synths held down by a monolithic beat that crescendos into a killer chorus.

“Having worked on this album for over a year, I’m so glad that people are finally getting to hear it,’ says Fred. ‘All The Sad Young Men’ is one of the tracks that took us the longest to get right because of how much it meant to us. I’m pretty sure it’s the best song we’ve written, and its honesty plays a big part in that.”

After the amicable departure of guitarist Chris Burman, the band have also shifted roles, with Danny Blandy moving from drums to keyboards, Jed Cullen concentrating on electronics as well as guitar, and Fred, as he puts it, “learning how to sing”, using his voice to combine a new sensitivity with his trademark lyrical style.

The result is the first taster of an album destined to change perceptions. In an age of one dimensional pop it’s also proof that the best groups take time to earn their wings.

Spector Are: Fred Macpherson (vocals), Jed Cullen (guitar), Danny Blandy (keyboards), Tom Shickle (bass).
