SHED SEVEN share new single ‘Starlings’ from upcoming album ‘A Matter of Time’

Fresh from the weekend’s triumphant sold-out London show at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Shed Seven today release ‘Starlings’ as the latest single to preview the January 5th release of their new album ‘A Matter of Time’. It comes as the band’s gigs are in huge demand, from their sold-out 6000-capacity summer show in Leeds to next January’s ever-expanding in-store tour. Meanwhile, album pre-orders have already seen all test pressings and all copies of Blood Records’ hand-numbered vinyl rapidly sell out.

‘Starlings’ offers a markedly different sound to Shed Seven’s recent high-energy singles. Yet while the band are best known for their anthems, there’s often an undercurrent of melancholy to their music – and that’s something ‘Starlings’ takes to its natural extreme. Building up layers of piano, strings, dramatic beats and swooping vocal harmonies into a slow-burning finale, Rick Witter’s lyrics offer the hope that perhaps not all goodbyes are forever.

Rick says, “‘Starlings’ showcases the album with a different kind of emotion. It’s a love letter to a departed partner. I had an idea about a couple who have been together since forever only for one of them to pass away, and the remaining partner is basically treading water until the time comes where they can be reunited for eternity in the ether. Some may say it’s dark subject matter, but I find it also pretty uplifting and is more of a common thing than one might think. The beautiful strings and piano add everything that is needed for such a heartfelt song. It’s nostalgic and reflective but also has a feeling of evermore.”

Check out “Starlings” – BELOW:

‘Starlings’ joins ‘Kissing California’, ‘F:K:H’ and ‘In Ecstasy’ (featuring Rowetta) in previewing the new album. Founding members Rick Witter (vocals), Paul Banks (guitar) and Tom Gladwin (bass) recorded the album in Spain with new recruits Rob ‘Maxi’ Maxfield (drums) and Tim Wills (keys). The sessions were produced by the Grammy Award-winning Youth (The Verve, Pink Floyd) and mixed by Cenzo Townshend (Florence + The Machine, Inhaler). The album also features further special guests in the shape of Laura McClure on ‘Tripping With You’ and Peter Doherty on ‘Throwaways’.

Shed Seven will follow their current headline tour by embarking upon an intense run of in-store appearances in January. Featuring a mix of intimate performances and meet-and-greet/signing sessions, demand for the tickets has seen the schedule expand seemingly every few days, and it now encompasses sixteen sessions in just ten days. Later that month, the band will play three special album launch shows, which will consist of two sets: ‘A Matter of Time’ in its entirety for the first and only time, followed by a greatest hits set. Those three shows all sold out instantly.
