Secret Machines announce Ten Silver Drops Expanded Edition Vinyl reissue via Run Out Groove. NME premiered Secret Machines’ “Everything Is Free” (Gillian Welch Cover), one of the previously unreleased tracks from the B-Side/rarities bonus LP, Allaire, included in the vinyl reissue, today, along with information about the limited edition reissue. Out of print for over 10 years, fans and listeners can purchase the reissue now through October 9th via the band’s own site or Run Out Groove. The expanded edition includes a bonus LP of B-sides/rarities, recorded at Allaire Studios, making their vinyl debut. Each 2LP set comes pressed on 180g vinyl at Record Industry in the Netherlands and comes in a deluxe gatefold tip-on Stoughton sleeve – the pressing was sourced from the original masters with lacquers cut at Sam Phillips Recording Studio. Pre-order the limited edition Ten Silver Drops Expanded Edition Vinyl here before sales close on October 9th.

Out of print since the original vinyl release in 2006 with second-hand copies being elusive, Ten Silver Drops expands the group’s sound with a full set of original compositions anchored around the leadoff track, “Alone, Jealous and Stoned.” Not only is Run Out Groove going to release the definitive version of this title on wax by sourcing from the original masters but they will be expanding it to a 2LP set that will include The Allaire Sessions: B-sides and rarities from the studio sessions, hand-picked and sequenced by Brandon and Josh; many of which are new to vinyl. The 2LP set will be pressed on 180g vinyl and come in a beautiful gatefold tip-on Stoughton jacket. Ten Silver Drops 2LP will be available to pre-order until October 9th and then pressed and numbered to a limited quantity based on total orders.

The alternative rock trio of brothers Brandon Curtis, Ben Curtis and Josh Garza that came on to the scene in the early 2000’s with a unique and creative take on progressive “space rock” may have only released two albums on Reprise and a third independently, but their highly original sound is undeniable and infectious. They were a personal favourite of the late legend David Bowie and have toured with the likes of The Foo Fighters, Spiritualized, Oasis, Kings of Leon and Interpol.

When asked about their sophomore effort getting an update, drummer Josh Garza said, “Ten Silver Drops is a very special album for me… I feel it was a great time for the band and recording at Allaire Studios was quite the experience. The songs are strong and our sense of experimentation comes through on the whole album. We were always trying to “push the envelope” in terms of song structure and overall sonics. On one hand, we were being influenced by our love for Eno and all things experimental, on the other hand, was our love for The Beatles.”

BIO

Best described as progressive rock with some Krautrock mixed in, Secret Machines’ first full-length release, Now Here is Nowhere, was recorded at Stratosphere Sound in NY and released May 18, 2004, on Reprise Records. All Music Guide gave the album 4 out of 5 stars. Their second album, Ten Silver Drops, like their first, did not make an impact commercially but garnered many favourable reviews. Following the release, the band was interviewed by David Bowie on radio; purported to be a big fan. Benjamin left the band in March of 2007 and was replaced by Phil Karnats. They have toured with the Foo Fighters, Spiritualized, Oasis, Kings of Leon, Interpol and many others. The band has been inactive since 2010 but Brandon and Josh have reformed and are working on a new album. Anyone interested in Pink Floyd, NEU, Ride, Spacemen 3, Mercury Rev, the Flaming Lips, U2, Super Furry Animals, Sparklehorse & Broken Social Scene should appreciate Secret Machine’s modern-day Space Rock.
