Rozalla – A Star Reborn

Rozalla – A Star Reborn

Say the name “Rozalla” to any frequent club dance-floor occupant around the early 1990s and you’ll likely be met with a warm smile and a nostalgic nod to the good times. After having left the scene for a number of years, Rozalla had the urge to reignite her career and in 2009 she unleashed her comeback album Brand New Version under her full name Rozalla Miller, which saw her refine her sound, adding an air of sophistication via some stunning piano sections and a subtler use of melody and rhythm.

The interest in Rozalla was reignited, but perhaps her older fans were a little confused by the change in pace. However, another ten years passed and Rozalla entered Select Recording Studios – spending much time during 2019 laying down tracks for a forthcoming album to be released on Energise Records. The early lead single ‘Turn On The Light’ was extremely well received and others followed in the form of ‘Magnificent’ and ‘I Feel It Slipping Away’ – all of which are available for digital purchase here.

All of the vocal tracks were recorded exclusively at Select Recording Studios, where Rozalla was able to take advantage of the exceptional facilities and the many years of diverse experience of the on-site studio engineers, who helped capture and re-energise Rozalla’s trademark sound.

At the time of writing Rozalla has just been played on BBC4 and their unmissable Top Of The Pops re-runs. Her incredible 1991 hit ‘Faith – In The Power Of Love’ featured alongside the likes of Seal, Tina Turner, REM and Michael Jackson, illustrating just how important an artist she really is.

The new material she’s laid down has been extremely well received and DJs in the important hotspots of Ibiza and the Balearics have played her new songs. As they say, form is temporary, class is permanent and Rozalla is a fine example of this axiom.

September saw the release of another killer single in ‘I Want You Back’, for which Rozalla recorded a great video, which you can seek out on YouTube. At the time of writing this song has climbed to number 15 in Mike Read’s so-called Heritage Chart, which shows just how much love there is for Rozalla’s new material. While plans for the release of the new album were delayed somewhat, largely owing to the pandemic, Rozalla’s brand new full-length is scheduled for release before the end of 2021.

For those of you itching to hear Rozalla talk about how her life is going as well as her new material, you need look no further than here where you can find a great chat with DJ John Gilmore on BBC Sounds where she talks about her early years in Zambia, where she appeared on a children’s TV show as well as the present day, including discussing how she delights in controlling her own social media. With streams of her new material racking up impressive figures and a new album on the horizon, the future is bright for Rozalla.
