Hot off his November 2016 sophomore album release, Calgary’s Hello Moth is back with his next offering – Take This Away. The single is set for release on May 19 to coincide with Hello Moth’s appearance at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton, UK. Written, recorded and produced by Hello Moth, the song showcases his energetic diversity as soft shifting piano chords erupt into a cathartic club beat to underscore lyrics that embrace ambiguity, sensuality and dark wit.

“This song is a puzzle to me,” Hello Moth admits, “but I like that it doesn’t clearly explain itself. Having different ways to interpret the lyrics is exciting to me. What is ‘this,’ who is ‘daughter?’ I can imagine many answers to those questions. It’s also musically different from my previous releases in that I produced it with fewer references to my live arrangement. I like to think I’m creating challenges for myself that will force me to explore new kinds of work in the future.”

Hello Moth started in 2012, playing at small venues and open mics around Calgary. He quickly established himself as one of the city’s most innovative performers thanks to his novel hybridization of electronic and singer-songwriter music styles. Hello Moth’s 2013 album Infinitely Repeated received wide airplay on community and college radio and was nominated for Best Electronic Record in the 2014 Western Canadian Music Awards. The music video for ‘Clouds in Cloudless Skies’ debuted in New York City with a live performance by Hello Moth, receiving comprehensive coverage from The Creators Project (Intel and Vice). Hello Moth has gone on to play several high-profile events, providing direct support for St. Vincent at Sled Island 2014, playing at Calgary Folk Festival 2014, and performing at TEDxYYC 2015. After his show for Rifflandia 2016, Exclaim! touted him as “the weirdest, most underrated, most original and unashamedly true-to-self performer on the Rifflandia lineup, hands down.” He has also enjoyed success on the pop charts as the producer and co-writer of Jocelyn Alice’s 2015 breakthrough hit, ‘Jackpot’ (Certified Platinum in Canada). Hello Moth’s 2016 album, Slave in a Stone, was released in 2016 on November 4th, with a music video released on December 6th which has been nominated for Best Music Video at the 2017 AMPIA Rosie Awards.

Hello Moth is playing  two shows at The Great Escape Festival on 20th May.
